Character meme

2. I will give you one.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

[livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 gave me a T. I could have done all Blake's 7 with Travis, Tyce, Tynus, Toise, and Tarrant, but I decided to avoid B7 as more of a challenge.

Tasha Yar from Star Trek: The New Generation. I loved Tasha. She was a kick-arse female and a pleasure to look at. She deserved a much better death than the crappy "Take that, uppity actor!" one in an oil slick they gave her--but she did get to spend a night with Data who assured her that he was not just anatomically correct, but in working order.

Talia Winter from Babylon 5 is another who got a bad deal due to an actor being too demanding (I believe). She didn't deserve the way she left, and they were building her up to have all sorts of cool TP-ness like telekinesis. I wanted to know more about what was behind the cool exterior, but we never got to see her properly developed. Like Tasha though, she got a night with someone intriguing and hot before she went.

Teal'c from Stargate SG1. Teal'c rocks mightily. His enormous dignity, his Irish-like lack of 'yes' and 'no' (his language obviously lacks them like Gaelic), his minimally but oh so expressive face, his dry humour, his imperturbability... he's simply awesome. And he made me go all misty-eyed at the end of the series and made a ep I dislike almost worthwhile.

Teyla Emmagan from Stargate Atlantis is a beautiful female warrior (I do like the type) with a strange inability to use contractions, but that seems to be a failing in aliens even when they nail the accent. ;-) Of late they've given her more of a dry sense of humour and an ability with tech (a good thing to see because I do get a bit tired of medieval cultures in the SG universe). Pity about the sprog though.

Taggart from Eureka appears, sadly, to be written out of the latest season. Damn. He was a character I liked: a slightly crazed Aussie scientist who got on very well indeed with the wonderful Jo Lupo. I miss him. That show needs more nutters.

"pity about the sprog" Damn I hope that's not a spoiler. Or did you mean a pity she had to get pregnant?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
A pity she had to get pregnant. It's not part of her nature to do that, but I know they had to work with the actor doing that. There are ways other shows have got round it: filming from the waist up, restricting screen time, and that's worked better than Teyla suddenly being pregnant to some idiot we'd never heard of before, and has no chemistry with her.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose they had to choose someone who was not part of the regular cast list. Otherwise fans would be speculating "Ronon" or "Sheppard"
Still considering some of the story arcs that have involved babies in sci fi it makes a change for the character to get "naturally" pregnant.
I had already realised she was before they "announced" it anyway

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. They used clever camera angles and had her carry things and stop wearing revealing clothes, but you could see it. Sigh. She was lucky she wasn't written out.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-09-02 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose it depended on what she was planning once the baby was born.

Nice choices, and I applaud you for going for the challenge of avoiding the obvious B7 answers. :)

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
But I would like to see them anyway. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? OK, I may do them later today. :-)

Well, I figured he was a given. :)

[identity profile] sorsha-khan.livejournal.com 2008-09-01 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
