Yes she has a Nefertiti like look at times and that shot is one of them. Middle(?)aged she's still more beautiful than I have ever been, I saw her in something a while back and was soooo jealous.
Lovely pic, for some reason the pink background really suits her.
Even when I was very small, I always thought Dayna was the prettiest. <3 And I still like her - she's the youngest of the group, so being hot-headed and impatient kind of fits into that dynamic.
Greg suggested the pink background and I jumped at it because her trousers are pink in this episode.
I liked Dayna's youth and humour and skills with weapons and explosives, but her bullying and sneering at Vila were what put me off. I do love that scene on HoK though where they've got Vila on weapons with her (for once) and they hug and jump for joy when they take out a pursuit ship. As I said above though, she does mellow, and she's quite gentle with Vila in 'Sand' when she thinks he's dying and he thinks he's in heaven. ;-) I'd like to have seen her in a 5th season.
Ignore the words on the icon. I hardly ever get to use it and it's a lovely pic of her.
Ah yes, poor Vila. At least he was honest and didn't try to hide when he was afraid (...he was afraid a lot. *huggles Vila*)
I do recall once Dayna & Soolin actually being pleasant to Vila and humouring him by listening to one of his rambling stories (admittedly that was a rare event, them being nice to him).
And acted anyway, so he was in fact very brave despite his fear. [hugs Vila too]
That was on 'Orbit' where they were laughing at him, and he was being very stupid. The only way I can explain that scene is by thinking he was trying to make them laugh by clowning. He can't have really thought they'd believe he knew about theoretical physics.
They were both very kind to him when he was ill in 'Sand', and they were very amused when he played drunk and got Avon and Tarrant to fix Scorpio in 'Stardrive' I think it was. I think they were fairly find of him by S4.
She is incredibly beautiful, and this is a beautiful portrait. You do marvellous work with shadowing.
I think she was a great character. I think a lot of her pettiness came simply from having lived mostly with only 2 other people for most of her life till that point. I just don't think she had enough interaction with others to teach her what was acceptable behaviour, and being her Father's pride and joy won't have helped. She was the centre of her universe for so much longer than most of us get to be. I think it was living with the other Liberator crew that made her begin to grow out of that.
I agree. She grew up in a world of three Us and many Them who were basically prey. Vila was introduced as a spare part--and he was one too, with no function on board--and was a Delta, so she automatically regarded him as a waste of space. It took her a while to realise that what you see isn't necessarily what you get.
I don't dislike her like some others do, and Tarrant was much more of a bully in S3. I wish they'd explored her more; same with Soolin. I did write her an alternate Animals story. :-) I think the problem is that they didn't give her much depth. Angst, yes (the loss of her family) but she was never presented as very thoughtful or complex.
Jenna suffered from the same problem: she was efficient and brave and capable, perhaps too much so. We see her mother being tortured in her vision on first boarding the Liberator, but few people have ever written about that.
I thought they tried to show Soolin as being as intelligent as Avon; it's been a long time, but wasn't she the only one who figured out who Cancer was?
Yep, the boyz were being dumb and competitive over possibly the least appealing (to me) woman in B7 and Soolin sat down and figured out what was going on. To be fair to the boyz their behavior around Piri was so off-the-wall I suspected she used a drugged perfume to make males idiots.
I must say that of those three women, Soolin is the one I like the most. Yes, she was intelligent and cool and I suspect Avon's equal in logic and analysis, but she was underwritten. Barber played her well though and gave her the hint of hidden depth, and she's the one I chose to flesh out.
Fabulous! Wonderful skin, incredible eyes and you've even caught the sense of metal in the earring and fabric in her clothes. You are Queen of textures. :^)
Oh, that came out very nicely! Dayna really is gorgeous at times, but I've been afraid to draw her just because of the short hair which is rather unforgiving ^^;. Well that and not liking her as much s I'd like to, she's a cool female character in the way that she's strong but never was given a chance for depth like some of the others, so I just can't quite get into her.
Anyway, you did her so well! I like the textured look for the clothes and the smooth feeling of all the shading and colors too. The pink is almost shocking but it works!
I found her very short hair easier to draw that Jenna's long blonde hair!
They never gave her much depth, though I've tried to give her a little in some of my b7friday stories. I did write her a story of her own, but hardly anyone read it. :-(
Greg suggested the pink and it worked well. Besides, the rest of her outfit in that ep is pink and it suited her, though one wouldn't have expected it to.

I wish they'd let Dayna kill Servalan.

B7 did that with all its warrior archetypes; Dayna, Soolin, Jenna, Gan, even first season Travis.
