Well, I wanted a punchline for the horrible kids' primer text. I hated that stuff. I used to refuse to say the repeated verb because "No one speaks like that". The teacher used to get so angry with me for editing it.

On the next page, Vila jets over to Avon and helps him to the airlock and the story ends with Avon tucked up in bed and Vila bringing him a nice cup of tea.

I wish I could do that! It's all graphics tablet work though and I'm not sure people would accept an electronic portfolio.

I would have found that more fun to read than the Janet and John books I had to suffer through or the "Oxford reading Tree" which got inflicted on my daughter.

I hated those things so much and got into trouble for editing them when I read them out loud. I was at a small country school then so we had to make do with old books like that. So sexist too. Even as a child I could see that.
