We won!

We beat England by ten wickets, and missed doing it in half the number of overs by one ball! This more than makes up for our humiliation at their hands during the twenty-20s.

And now I should go and watch some TV. Lost and SGA I think.

We played like drains and were the instruments of our own downfall. You provided the rope and we hung ourselves. :-(

That's cricket for you, the English team has been doing that on and off for years. And we beat England at Rugby at Twickenham for the first time in 20 years, not a good week for English team sports.

As did we during the Twenty-20s. Ha: the papers were all saying we were finished as a team but then we won two one-dayers.

[sings unheard] La la la la la!

Whoooo, go New Zealand!

...damn, my heritage is showing.

But... you're Scottish! :-)

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
The Scots always rejoice at an English defeat. That's why they replaced their jolly anthem Scotland the Brave with the more miserable Flower of Scotland.

And this is the icon I should have used.

*cough* I'm sorry, I can't help it! It's the way I was raised!
Besides, anyone with half an ear has to admit that 'Scotland the Brave' is crap. Anything would be an improvement.

I have lo-fi ears, so find Flower of Scotland dirge-like. And Scotland the Brave no worse than a lot of anthems. It's nearly twenty years since I lived in Wales, so I've forgotten My hen ate a haddock.

The way they played in those two One Day Internationals, you can't say anything worse about the team than I've already said.

And after the performance of the rugby team these past two weeks, you'll have the advantage there as well.

Not that red and white St George's flag? :-)

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No, this is the blue and gold St Alban's cross, the flag of Mercia. King Offa had his palace in the town centre. That's why we had to spend a fortune a few years ago stopping the end of the church falling off, it had been built in Victorian times before the knew the exact like of Offa's ditch and the end of the building overlapped the backfill.

As you can see in this picture (http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/nwh_gfx_en/ART39241.html) the castle flies the flag quite often.
