Day 7 - A cat looking at a frog

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge is for [livejournal.com profile] azdak who wanted a cat looking at a frog. The cat turned out to be a kitten, and the cuteness level may be dangerously high.

A cat looking at a frog (and vice versa)

My NaArMaMo 2008 Gallery is here.

Aww. The kitten's fur looks so soft!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
It took me a while to get it that way too!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
love it :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :-)

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
That kitten is so adorable, and the frog so froggy, I want both of them as pets. Tou have a way with hair and fur youmake it so tactile.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It took me a while, but the main thing in this case was blending the white and tabby fur: that really had a huge impact on the effect.

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwww! Froggie! Kittie! *pats them*

p.s. Hope Tessa feels better soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
She's walking around and has just had something to eat, so she's feeling better. She (and of course the other two) are allowed in bed tonight. :-P

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
The shapes of both are very well done, and the blending on the kitten's fur is excellent.

Personally, I'm not sure about the contrast between the soft fur and the relatively hard, black outline. It works for the frong, which is smooth-skinned, but I don't like it so much for the furry kitten. Still, that's just my opinion.

Love the grass in the corner- very nice.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
But I made the lines less solid and more sketched for the kitten! I need my outlines!

Ah, the grass! Now that was done with a nifty little PSE2 brush. Ha!

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Terminal cuteness!

I hope they will be friends!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The next move is to touch noses. :-)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Aww that is a sweet kitty Ijust want to take her home!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You can if you have a colour printer! ;-)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that permission to "copy"?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. If you want to print it out though, add a copyright or acknowledgement to Nicola Mody.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Naturally.

[identity profile] thetisonline.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Love kitty's green eyes. The fur is amazing. You are really good at these!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I made her eyes green to match the frog. :-) The fur took me the longest to get right, and it seems I did!

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Bwoop! Bwoop! Cuteness levels exceeded! Bwoop!

Heh. Seriously, this is kind of adorable. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what happens with kittens!

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This is definitely tres cute!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
With a kitten, it had to be!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
EEEEE!! KIttie! EEEEE! Froggie!!! That's wonderful. The kitten's face in particular has the perfect expression.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a real compliment from someone who can draw animals! I'm like you with people: I don't find it easy and have to use a photo as inspiration.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It sure turned out great. Both the kitten and the frog are very lively and true to their natures.:^)

Aww, a kittie and a froggie. They're very cute. XD

I did warn you! ;-)

[identity profile] lizamanynames.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

Oh dear lord, that is easily the cutest thing I have seen in a week.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Even more than floaty Vila? ;-)
ext_166: Over a Canadian flag: "No, don't you get it? If you die in Canada, you die in real life!" (Vila)

[identity profile] lizamanynames.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, floaty Vila is cute, but I'm afraid this is cuter.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooooh! I've just got back from a day in the country to find this waiting for me and it's GORGEOUS! I love their eyes, the frog's even more than the kitten's, and the way they're quite clearly both trying to work out what on earth this strange being is with which they're confronted. You are amazing!! Thank you so much for picking up on the suggestion and running with it - I had no idea it would turn out to be so adorable!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you like it! I was going to draw Tessa but I couldn't under the circumstances, so I decided to do a kitten rather like my late Petra (http://www.farsight.net.nz/images/petra.jpg). I made her eyes the same green as the frog's so there's a connection. :-)

[personal profile] trixieleitz 2008-08-07 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, that's lovely. I want to stroke them both :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-07 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I can assure you that the frog isn't a poisonous one!

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
How sweet... :)

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the way the frog's colour is reflected in the cat's eye.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-08-08 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks; that was deliberate. :-D
