Announcing a new Blake's 7 fan fiction archive

Hip Deep in Heroes is a new Blake's 7 fan fiction archive.

It is completely independent of LJ and is not intended to replace anything. b7fic will remain, being an excellent way of keeping up with new fiction via your flist. Rather, the new archive is a successor to the Hermit Library which, as several of us have found, is no longer being updated. Hip Deep in Heroes is intended to be a searchable archive to which any B7 fan can upload stories.

Features

• Authors (once registered under the name they prefer) upload their own stories, and then have control over them. They may edit them and delete them at any time without anyone else's intervention.
  
  
• You can search stories by season, character or a combination of two characters, rating, genre, and story type etc. All of the story's attributes also appear in the automatically generated header. You can also search for stories by author.
  
  
• You can load longer stories in chapters.
  
  
• You can create series of stories, either exclusive to you, or shared by several authors.
  
  
• Readers can leave feedback without having to register.
  
  
• There is an extensive Help which should give you all you need to start uploading your stories.

Have a look at the fiction already there to see how the archive works. For those of you who use the Doctor Who Teaspoon archive, it works much the same way. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Do you want old stories that are already hosted at Hermit? Since I had a disagreement with ff.net and deleted all my fic I've been thinking about copying my B7 stuff somewhere in case Hermit dies, and this sounds ideal, but I don't want to hog your archive space if that's not what the place is designed for.

That would be absolutely fine! We don't mind if it's somewhere else as well. I will be gradually adding stories from my site so that people who go to the archive can find them there too.

Excellent! When you do, you can link straight to your stories (under Author). For example, my link with stories sorted alphabetically is:

This is an error I have encountered myself, when trying to preview the file. If you submit it anyway, it does appear to go through without any issues. (If you submit without a preview, it also seems to go through.) As not everyone was reporting the error, I wasn't sure if it was just a problem on my end, but now I know you've got it too, I'm going to look into it more. I don't why it's suddenly doing this, as it hadn't in the past.

Were you putting the information in C&P into the box, or did you try to upload a file? Also, what browser are you on?

Ah yes. I got that when I started. You haven't selected a category and moved it across to the right-hand box. You can select more than one and move them across if you like, but usually in more than one step.

I doubt that will ever happen, sadly. Many of the older authors have left the fandom or aren't on line. I'm pleased with how many have uploaded stories though. This archive and the Hermit one should cover a lot of B7 fiction between them, and this one is very easy for authors to use.

There's b7recs which was started when the fandom was kicked out of crack_van for being two small a fandom. It's hardly been used, but the new archive may jump-start it. I'll add similar tags to the ones calufrax has, though any member can post to it and rec any story as ong as it's on-line.
