Three original character drawings

These are for [livejournal.com profile] kalinda001 who had no pictures of her original characters to display with the canon ones in her PGP series. She described them to me so I could have a go at drawing them. Kalinda, I hope they're not too far off what you had in mind. Ignore them if they are; they didn't take me that long once I got round to it.

Argus

"Argus is tough with a strong cheekbones and just a bit longer than a military cut; he's about the same height as Avon; dark brown hair and light hazel eyes; a slight haunted look in his eyes."

Reya

"Reya is tall but a bit shorter than Argus; her hair is a short brownish-blond; she has light grey eyes; triangular face with strong jaw line with narrowing at the cheek bone and temples."

Sester

"Sester has strawberry blond hair and intense blue eyes; medium to slender build; silky compelling voice; quick easy smile; comes across as charming, whimsical and sincere."

I don't know anything about them, but these pictures are great! You should do this sort of thing more! I really like Reya.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! She's a tough soldier loved by another soldier, Argus, and respected and slightly feared by Vila and even possibly Avon.

These are great! You have the descriptions perfectly. That is very close to how I envisioned them.

I like the way you caught that slightly haunted look in Argus' eyes.

Reya is stern and strict but also carries an air of compassion.

Sester is perfect. He's somehow got the sincerity but at the same time he has a mischievous and possibly devilish look in his eyes.

Wonderful renderings! I love them! Thank you so much [livejournal.com profile] vilakins!

Yay, I'm glad you like them! Your descriptions for Argus and Reya were very close to what I'd imagined, but I didn't have a clear idea of Sester till you said.

BTW the descriptions I quote are the ones you gave me. :-)

Hello, Argus *purr*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you know the stories, or do you just like the look of him? :-)

[identity profile] crycraven.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Just like the look of him! I'm still scouting around the shorter fics at the moment. *Grabs wealth of material to herself and RUNS*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Kalinda's series is novel-sized, so not your shorter work, no. :-)

[identity profile] popcorn-oracle.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha, well I'm not familiar with the fic or the characters, but judging by the descriptions these look about right! The personality seems to comes through in them too, it's nice.
Yay art~

Thank you! Next month is NaArMaMo--art making month--so you'll be seeing a lot more from me. :-)

I have the first daffodil of the year in a vase. Who's the one in your icon?

[identity profile] popcorn-oracle.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha~ yay to more art.

The one in the flower costume is Grant from Traders. It's a Canadian show about... investment banking, pretty much though more about the characters involved in it than the banking, fortunately. It's not a bad show but I watched it 100% for Grant (David Hewlett) who is adorable, mildly autistic, afraid of people but a total sweetheart. He's their derivatives expert/a genius with patterns, so it's a bit sad most of the characters sort of take advantage of him throughout the show.

There's a part where everyone comes to work dressed up in like halloween/horror type costumes, not quite getting the theme he shows up dressed as a flower~~.

That's David Hewlett! I love him as Rodney! Is it worth downloading if I can find it?

[identity profile] popcorn-oracle.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, Rodney is love! I've sort of hunted most of David Hewlett's major stuff. I downloaded the episodes from an LJ community I'm prolly not sposed to talk about on not friendlock. It's a decent show in parts, it drags in others, I could've got by pretty much just watching the Grant bits, as he's not overly involved in the plot a lot of the time.

I can post the com on journal or:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=LzdmyfV5wkA
Starting with this video, a person cut all of the Grant bits out of the episodes for S1.

And I proceeded to continue that myself for the rest of the series (seasons 2-5)

Thank you! We download a lot of overseas shows from eztv.it and they may well have it. I'd watch for him.

[identity profile] popcorn-oracle.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, I searched for about a month or so off and on, it was sort of hard to track down. That's not a site I ever checked though. It's a difficult one because they only released the first season on DVD for some reason, I guess they still show it on repeats in Canada, though. But I guess it's something of a pre-fandom show too, which doesn't help.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I love him too. I do have the first season of Traders. It's the only one which is on DVD at the moment. It's wonderful.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I may even go so far as to buy it then. Canada makes excellent series, films, and actors! :-)

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just curious - but these are wonderful!!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :-)

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
These are just so good. It's wonderful to have some faces for Kalinda's original characters.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-14 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! She gave such good descriptions, it was easy.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I like Reya and Argus but Sester looks creepy and sinister to me rather than charming - the smile is way too sly! However undoubtedly shows his true character.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I was going for playful and, yes, rather sly. :-)
