The bastard who spammed several B7 communities--at the very least--yesterday has been suspended after I (and doubtless others) reported the abuse. Result!

I set my journals to allow only those with LJs to comment. If you like to allow friends without LJs to do so, then setting all anonymous comment to be screened till you change them is another option. I did that with the comms because some posters wanted it.

So far it's been very infrequent(maybe 6 times in the last couple years) & since I have notifications turned on, when the spam appears (usually months, or even *YEARS* in the past), I delete them as spam, which should be reporting it to LJ.

I've had some of those from LJ users. It's so odd though. I mean, what's the point?

Deleting as spam however only works if they're trying to sell or promote something. If it's just a stupid irrelevant comment, I just ban them.

The ones I deleted as spam were spam: ads for something or other.

I ignore the occasional irrelevant comment. Sometimes it turns out to be people who are getting up the nerve to be friends in an awkward way. Sometimes they just vanish. I've never had the irrelevant commenters become a repetitive nuisance, so I've never banned anyone.

Just spamming. Not inherently interesting and they'll probably create another journal to do it with unless LJ has some IP address checks.
