Report on Blake's 7 Star One 2004 convention

Yes, I know this con report is late but I did a tour of the UK afterwards. And I'm chronically lazy.

This is a monster that has been weeks in the making (well, all right--several lunch-hours at work writing it and a couple of evenings scanning in photos) but here it is at last.

I've laid it out so you only need to look at stuff which interests you. Let me know of any mistakes or broken links.

[Edit] WARNING: If you haven't seen all of Blake's 7, there are a few spoilers.

And there are lovely B&W photos of the guests and pics of all the costumes including Coser's amazing one which I somehow missed here on another fan's site.

Wow, now that's what I call a con report! No wonder it took you so long! Very well-organized and thorough and a lot of fun to read! Thanks for transcribing so much of the panels. The guests' joking around made me laugh several times, and there was even some information and some stories in there I hadn't heard before. And you're right, Michael does look very well-preserved. He sounds like a great guy. I'm so glad you got to meet him. And a little jealous. :)

I did notice one broken link: the "interview with Tarrant's trousers" doesn't seem to go anywhere. Which is a shame, as I'd love to know what that's all about. :)

Fixed! I'd left it because I had to search for the site and I forgot to, but I've found it now. It's on the Three Good Reasons (http://www.wibble22.fsnet.co.uk/) Tarrant site and is here (http://www.wibble22.fsnet.co.uk/archive/interview.html). The pair interviewed are from Volcano.

Blimey, I'm amazed people are still looking at my site! Maybe I'll leave it up there after all.

It's because people remembered that interview that Ruth and I did our one!

Ooooh, that is long, yay:) It kept me well occupied for a nice chunk of time, and very enjoyable it was too. Made me jealous all over again that I couldn't go:) Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I loved reading all the notes from the panels, and lovely pictures too, especially of you with Michael. Thanks.

Nice ones of Michael anyway! (I hate photos of me and always get an unnatural look on my face).

That's how Vila will look in a story I have planned for him 25 years on--still recognisably our Vila. I think he and Steven Pacey are the best-preserved and relatively unchanged.

No! You look very lovely in the photos:) You're right, MK and SP have aged ridiculously well. Especially Michael, of all the actors he looks the most like his character would at that age, to my mind.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-06-10 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's all makeup; I'd look like a stunned Mona Lisa without it (pale redhead eyebrows etc)

Michael does look so much like Vila! He still gets recognised, to his surprise. He's not our Vila though; he's himself, but he's just lovely--very charming and friendly and funny.

Steven's still an older Tarrant too and according to recent photos, Jan Chappell hasn't aged at all. In fact all the women look very good.

I can't see Blake in Gareth any more; in fact I wouldn't have recognised him at all if I hadn't known.

A great report, many thanks for sharing it with us. I've read all the MK stuff, he is just so adorable, charming and clever and I'm so happy that he is so happy and I'm gushing now so I'll shut up.
MK great. Report great. Thanks!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-06-07 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
He really is a lovely man (his favourite remark about others). Gareth was very friendly and fun to talk to too--I never had the chance with the others.

I had a lovely time and wish I lived over there so I could go to more and meet my B7 friends.

A *great* report! Thank you so much! Wish I had been there:). Thanks for trranscribing the fun stuff.

And yeah, you're right, MK and Tufty are very well-preserved. What do they do, sleep in a pickle jar at night?:) Handsome fellas, mm.

And I can't understand why you think you look bad in the photos, you look *very* cute and happy! I'm beaming at your happiness as much as at the guys' smiles:).

Now I'm thinking of GT writing poetry and I think I'm going to faint. Right here. Wonder if those are still about anywhere...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-06-07 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he made a living from it, he said! Perhaps Ruth can find out, ace researcher that she is.

And thanks about the photos. I really wasn't sure about including the ones with me in them. [blush]

Poetry

If I see him I shall ask about the poetry if you like...

Please do! Perhaps as [livejournal.com profile] hafren suggested, it was greeting cards. ;-)

p.s.

Loved the photo of Gareth sitting there. Glad you managed to cut me out, I was quite literally sitting as his feet ...

It came out well, didn't it? I was disappointed with some of them; neither of my pics of Steven Pacey worked.

Gan dies?!!

Curse my curiosity, but I couldn't help it, twas such a lovely, shiny report. :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-06-07 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, I'm sorry! There are probably lots of other spoilers in there too. I should have put up a warning. In fact I will.

My fault entirely :D - it's thirty years old, no one should have to put up spoiler warnings, and I've been warned plenty of times not to go look at stuff but I couldn't help it, wanted to read about Paul Darrow. :D

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2004-06-07 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely report. The idea of Gareth writing poetry doesn't surprise me, but the idea of him or anyone else living on the proceeds for 6 months is close to unbelievable. What was it, greeting-card verses? I can't imagine what else would pay serious money.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-06-07 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Perhaps it was!

[identity profile] matildabj.livejournal.com 2004-06-09 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant, brilliant report, and it made me even more sad that I couldn't be there. Thanks for the work on it!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2004-06-09 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the feedback! That makes it ... you guessed it!
