Merry Kitschmas!
I went over to Pakuranga (another Auckland suburb) today to collect a painting a relative did for me a few weeks ago. One of the neighbours in her street has ... an inflated Santa, trembling in the wind. I was delighted that I had my camera.
OK, maybe these are common where you live, but it's the first one I've ever seen.
On the way home, I took another photo of the famed Kitschmas house, also in Pakuranga. This place has been decorated every year for at least ten years, and each time there is more. The Mary and strangely red-faced Joseph are new.
The place is lit up at night and Greg jokes they need the power pylon you can see nearby. Once again, this isn't normal for here.
And here's the lovely painting I got!
It's of the Bay of Islands, where we often go on holiday. Isn't it gorgeous? And not at all kitsch. :-D

That house is quite amazing, isn't it? Even the two just round the corner from me aren't as insane as that.

The old couple I imagine live there must plan all year. The house is on a main road near a big mall so it gets lot of attention which probably makes their whole year. :-)

Oh, every year Mom and I drive out on Christmas Day to look at decorations around town. Some folks go absolutely batty with it! But it's fun to see what people do.
Happy Christmas to you and Greg and the four-legged ones!

It's never been a tradition here to decorate the outside of your house, but it's becoming more so due to films and TV. There's one street where all the residents get together and do lights which is extremely beautiful. I must try to drive down it soon, but of course I'll have to wait till after 9pm for it to be dark.
And a wonderful Christmas and New Year to you all all your furry room-mates!
