Oh now look!

Since so many people are telling me I'm being negative, I want to emphasise that it's B7E I'm negative about. They've changed the characters and universe (come on, a populated galaxy in 200 years?) in their audio series and will do the same in a TV series.

If someone else were remaking B7 with say Martin Freeman as Vila and Dylan Moran as Avon, I'd be very excited. I even thought the head girl in St Trinian's would make a brilliant Servalan.

And if anyone thinks I'm a reactionary who hates remakes per se, I was almost alone in enjoying the HHGTTG film (in which Martin Freeman was Arthur) and am looking forward to the new Get Smart film when I was very dubious before I saw the excellent trailer. And why was it? Because the people playing Smart and 99 acted like them.

I totally agree with you. B7E? ugh with what they've done to the B7 universe. I mean they got rid of the teleport for heavensake!!!

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Did that article actually say that the B7E people were using the audio concept(s) for the TV series? I didn't read that part.

Anyway, we're all a bit touchy about the subject, I guess. Perhaps it's hard to seperate "negative about B7E's involvement" from just simply "negative."

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
They mentioned the audio actors.

Shit, I was saying what I thought. And I have every right.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I couldn't stand more than about 5 eps because it was so hard to follow but I think they ditched FTL travel too which would make other systems unreachable. I might be wrong about that.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I didn't see that part.

Anyway, no one is saying you don't have a right to say what you thought. But so do they--to say what they think. It's all a matter of interpretation, I guess. I wouldn't take it personally.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I feel some of the remarks have already been too personal.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I'm just being negative, too, then. I'm not saying that *someone* couldn't do Blake's 7 today and do it wonderfully, but the people who have control over it have proven that they are against all the things we liked best about the show. Heck, they wouldn't even want Chris Boucher to write a script for them because they had a friend who was so much better! (That was back the first time they were going to make a Big Screen Movie. Then they were going to make an animated series. Then they put up a website with a logo so distorted I had to stare at it for several minutes before realizing it was meant to be a B7. And when I looked at the website, for months the only active link on it was to audio tapes of a man reading Bible stories for children!)

Yeah, I really trust them to do something we'll enjoy.

[identity profile] babel.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
If any of that is directed toward me, I would like to make it clear that it was not my intention to be personal at any point.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I do understand where you're coming from. Don't feel too frustrated. Some people don't seem to understand that what they're conveying seems to be like an attack. And rather than sticking to the topic, like the characters or details of the show, it begins to sound personal. It's one of the reasons I don't participate much in the Lysator stuff anymore other than making a comment or two. And usually only to you.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
If they sold the rights to someone else, I'd be feeling much happier and even looking forward to what they might do. But not this lot.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
As Vila said when he was fired on, it felt like it. You think I'm being negative for the sake of it, and trying to stir up others: I'm not. I don't like what B7E did to the series already and I was just posting my reaction to the news. If it's any consolation, most people seem to be more optimistic about it than me.

Have you heard their audios? I used to have a link to a free site but I can't find it now.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* If they even do it at all, it'll be surprising. They couldn't pull their fingers out of a tub of lard.

(Avon logo is for B7E, not you. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen much personal stuff on the Lyst. I do filter out a couple of people though.

[identity profile] babel.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't any of think that. And I still never said that the show will be good.

On a side note, my post was about the reaction at the community, not you in particular.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Filter? I didn't know you could do that.
I just love how people can say all kinds of negative things about Avon but the moment someone mentions something negative about Blake, they're all over you like you don't have a right to have your own opinion. Which gives me a perfect illustration to why I detest Blake.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
That's a relief, but I think most people didn't in fact react that badly. The strongest reactions came from fans who have moved on, which is very weird.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on your browser.

Oh, I've been flamed for saying Avon might have been a Beta promoted to Alpha which wasn't even an insult, and then there was the rabid Tarrant fan who hates anyone to write Tarrant as anything but perfect (and my story was actually sympathetic to him). But yes, I did get jumped on recently by two fans for criticising Blake for Star One. I'll have to be edit when I post my review of that ep there.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I use Internet Explorer. I'm guessing you don't?

hehe...I think I'll refrain from saying anything about Blake in Star One. I don't have anything positive to say about him at all in that one.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say I have moved on, in case you were wondering. I'm grumpy about the thing *because* I love B7 so hard.

And yes, hugs again from here. It's ridiculous that everyone should come down on you like a ton of bricks for not liking B7E and their involvement in the remake. FFS. I haven't gone on any of the squeey posts to moan about it and shove my opinions down others' throats. I'd rather bitch on my own journal. Your LJ, your opinions, and very valid ones too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I use Firefox, but sorry, I meant your e-mail software. If it's Outlook, (I mainly use GMail) I know there are ways to redirect mail from certain people to other folders. I filter Jackie Speel and Carol the Tarrant fan out by sending them straight to the bin.

Neither do I. It's a pity the others didn't object much earlier.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes because we're all wary of the Blake fans jumping down our throats making us feel like we don't have a right to our opinions...and dare I say again, thereby illustrating exactly why I....hehe

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I use gmail. I guess I should set up a filter for some people. I really didn't want to though because I really do think that everyone is entitled to love or hate characters according to their own choice. And I genuinely am interested in the different opinions and how people arrived at them.

[identity profile] kindkit.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Dylan Moran as Avon

That kind of terrifies me, I must admit. I love Dylan Moran, but to me he seems not quite right for Avon. He's too uncontrolled, somehow.

On the other hand, I did like much of the Hitchhiker's remake. I liked Martin Freeman, and Mos Def made a lovely Ford who was even gayer for Arthur than the original Ford (and I hadn't thought that was possible).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I must say though that the newer fans who are being more optimistic wouldn't know about B7E and their bad history. I can't be bothered explaining about them though. Sigh. The fact that they're owned by fundies is by itself a worry: they'll think all the characters deserve to die, like some people say Maggie Thatcher demanded.

I would so love to see Martin Freeman and Dylan Moran interpret Avon and Vila. A remake could be a wondrous thing, but it won't be if it's B7E. [hugs back]

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Dylan Moran would have to be more restrained as Avon (even PD should have been in S4) and use an English accent, but he has that dark, brooding air. And Martin Freeman plays a lot of lovable and put-upon parts, and he'd so get Vila's expressions. The B7E people are casting anyone of the right sex, it seems to me.

There were some scenes (e.g. the booby-trapped sand) they should have cut, but in general the film was great and had the right feel, esp the Vogons.
