My site and other stuff

My site, Breaking Orbit, has been moved to another web hosting provider because of the appalling service I had at the last one. They've had a lot of downtime, are very hard to contact, and last week was the last straw. First I got an error while trying to update a page, then when I complained, the site disappeared altogether and my e-mails were ignored.

It's now all uploaded at the new web host (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen for the rec) who have already shown that they have a much better level of service and range of features. The DNS change is still propagating through the web, so if you still get a 403 or 404 error, it hasn't reached you yet. The URL has not changed so things should be back to normal in a few days at the latest. I can finally see it, yay!

Today I also managed to go to Newmarket and meet Greg for lunch at 277, walk down to the the Crocs shop and buy those shoes and studs, run into [livejournal.com profile] imhilien on the way back (she must have seen my purple hat coming from a block away!), get a warrant of fitness for my car, and go to the library to pick up my ordered book and another one that looks interesting. And now it's time for a nice cup of tea and a sit down.

Someday, I'm going to chain you to your house and make you rest PROPER. Still, sounds like a mostly positive day, for which I'm glad.

Studded sandals, eh? Channeling a bit of Avon there, are you?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Crocs have holes in them (http://www.crocs.net.nz/footwear.php) and I've adorned mine with the bright little studs (they have some other official name I can't remember). My brown 'Beach' pair needed some so I got a lizard and a paw-print. :-)

Tomorrow it's a flu injection and a haircut, and Thursday two visits to the vet, then I should be able to veg out. :-P

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know what crocs are, but I've never seen anyone put anything in the holes before! How amusing. XDXD

Okay, FRIDAY IS REST DAY! I'll hold you to it!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Friday is a public holiday here and everything's closed for at least half the day so I won't be doing much more than maybe having lunch out. :-)

[looks up the stud things] Ah, they're Jibbitz (http://www.decorateyourfeet.co.uk/). My new lizard is at the bottom of that page. I don't have any of the others there, but I also have a cat, a crab, a flower, and some paw-prints. Why no, I haven't grown up; why do you ask? ;-)

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha, okay, lunch out is acceptable. Otherwise, lots of relaxing! I demand it! Ahahahaha.

And, those are quite cute. Yay for not growing up! I'm a strong avocate for staying childish. It keeps you young. :D (And makes me feel better about collecting action figures and wearing costumes to conventions. XD)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
I have lots of action figures (B5 ones even!) and plushies. Grown-ups are boring.

I do rather fancy the stuff on that site which we don't have here like the cell phone bags.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha. I have lots of action figures. Obviously not B5 (yet) but yeah. Oh, how I wish there were some B7 action figures. The fun I could have with little Avon and Vila figures, ahhahahha. I even did a comic with some of my Doctor Who ones for a while ( [livejournal.com profile] 9_10_adventures, though I haven't updated it in ages, since I started it before Tennant showed up and I quickly grew to hate him. Sigh.)

Anyway. Maybe you'll get something nice for your birthday? :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt it; not with the huge expense of Greg's trip to Europe. I do very much fancy those Four and Five DW figures I saw on-line recently: so detailed and accurate and wonderful. These ones (http://www.doctorwhotoys.net/classics.htm). I can't even see what the damned things cost or how to order them. Oh well, I probably can't afford them anyway.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I saw those! I want them very much. Four, Five and Six and both of the Vox robots from "Robots of Death." I don't think they've been released yet, though. I entirely plan to save up for them. Somehow. Someday. XDXD I hope it's just a start of a bunch of new figures. I reaaaaally want a Troughton era figure! Or two! :D

A few action figures couldn't hurt the pocketbook THAT much. Not for your birthday! Well, let me know if there's anything you want from stateside. I'd be happy to send you a care package or something. :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'd buy Six too because he's wonderful as well, but I've only seen scenes from his era when I saw Colin Baker on stage that time. However freight costs as much as the figures for me so I'd have to think about it. I wish they still had a Planet Hollywood here.

Don't send me anything--you're even poorer than me! I could look on eBay in a couple of years; that's how I got the B5 figures.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, you should see some Colin Baker. He's got some seriously horrible episode, but some that are totally worth it. You ought to at least see Timelash for Darrow! I could send you a copy of that on CD! Heck, I could burn a bunch of stuff onto a DVD-R. The cost of shipping a disc to NZ couldn't be terrible. Anything in mind? I could put those Simpsons episodes on. I have all of DW (classic and new), Red Dwarf, Life On Mars/Ashes to Ashes, . . . tons of stuff!

And shipping to the US is murder too. I could probably pick them up at Gallifrey One in February, but they tend to jack up the prices even higher when they import them, and I'm not sure I could wait. I'm an impatient bastard. But we'll see. Maybe I'll have some money to spare by August. *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, DVDs would be great and pretty cheap to send airmail (anything else is about 3-5 months). I'd love classic Who and those Simpsons eps. I own all of Red Dwarf and I have downloads of the other shows, though they're not really favourites (I can't stand Bolly-knickers).

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
They won't be watchable on a DVD player, but they'll be AVIs you could watch on the computer--is that okay?

Any particular serials/Doctors you'd especially like to see? I could send both of Darrow's serials, if you've not seen them. Jacqueline Pearce was in "The Two Doctors" and Brian Croucher in "The Robots of Death" if those interest you. (Of course you know about MK in The Sunmakers.)

I'd definitely send it airmail. I've mailed stuff to Australia before, so I imagine the travel time is fairly similar. By boat would be a terribly long wait.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, because with all our gadgets (Apple TV etc) we can indeed watch them on TV if we want. :-D

I think I saw PD (though I didn't realise it) in a 1st Doctor rerun once, but why not? And I burned the Sunmakers to DVD a while back. Anything you think's good will be fine.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
That works out splendidly then! :D

PD was in a Third Doctor serial, not a First Doctor. I'll include both of them. As I recall the Third Doctor one is probably worth FFing through to find Darrow, but it'll be amusing anyway.

I'll put those on and fill it up with whatever else fits then. :D Maybe send you some Troughton stuff, since he's my favorite. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen Troughton so that would be great! I do have a couple of Seven DVDs and of course Sunmakers.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Some Troughton it is, then! Do you want me to add those Simpsons episodes if they download, or should I just upload them whenever they finish, instead?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever's easier! :-)

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Troughton was excellent, and his characterisation was very much the template for all of his successors. From him onwards, it's not difficult to believe that each new regeneration is at the core the same character, for all the superficial differences. But it's much harder to gelieve that of Hartnell's Doctor.

Congratulations on your productive day.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of people like him.

Thanks! :-)

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I looked it up. The figures are due for release in the UK in August, and the 5" figures will be £7.99. Which is terribly expensive, when you convert. But, eh. I'll still buy them anyway, I'm sure.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's not as bad as I thought. Postage will be a lot more though. Still, if I have a job I'll buy Four and Five.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
But I do have B7 pipecleaner action figures! They're only as tall as my index finger but they're adorable and quite posable. The talented [livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v makes them. You can see them in this post (http://vilakins.livejournal.com/197459.html) being menaced by Daleks.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I remember seeing a picture of them before! I've done a little action figure customization before. I wonder if I could customize some Vila and Avon's. I'm probably too lazy though, alas.

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I can finally see it, yay!
I'm glad it's working out so well.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I no longer have to deal with the idiots at the old place. This is all good. :-)

I can see the new site, too!

Sounds like you got a fun batch of errands run. Well, mostly :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good! If any links don't work, it might be due to caching.

Yep, that's about a third of them done. Just two tomorrow and two on Thursday, then it's ANZAC day, which once again I don't get paid for. I always seem to stop work just before a holiday.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Busy life...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
All the things I put off till this week and can't any longer.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly saw your purple hat first... funny that. :-p

It sounds like your website is better off elsewhere after the bad service.

After I returned to work I ended up having a 2 1/2 hour meeting with my boss for various fun reasons, urgh. Seven more working days to go and definitely counting...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Not long to hang in there; you can do it!

BTW we're out of town the weekend after next for a family 21st, and the one after that is Greg's last one here for six weeks or so, so it looks as if the Aotea Square market is on hold for about three weeks.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for that!

That's OK, we can always go to Aotea Square another time. I meant to say the other day that in three weeks I'll be away on a holiday with my folks for a little while (it will be something nice to look forward to after work).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
What a lovely way to celebrate your freedom! We'll work it out when you get back, pick a nice fine day.
