Sunset and dark rays

And these are three sunsets I took tonight. I was about to put some pasta on when I saw a very rich golden light outside and went up and took a photo. A few minutes later, the sunset was more intense and I rushed back up and took two more.

I rather like this one. The sky is very atmospheric. The bit sticking up on the skyline right of centre is the Sky Tower.

For some reason it got brighter--because the sun wasn't obscured by clouds perhaps? To the left is a what we're calling a dark glory: dark rays caused by clouds blocking the sun.

Now I know someone took a much better picture of this effect. I'm pretty sure it was [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house. Can you give me the URL of that post?

Zoom in on the dark glory. If someone could tell me what that's really called, I'd appreciate it.

And now I'm off to bed.

I like the cloud effects of the first one best.

I do too.

I should try to take more; we get some wonderful ones here.

3 sunsets ? There's only 2 pictures. Lovely colours though.

There are three. Perhaps refreshing would help.

These came out really well! I love the rich colours of the last one, and the clouds in the first one are brilliant. Thank you!

We were also intrigued by the dark rays. I've never seen that effect before, though glories are very common.

Well I can now turn my sunset triptych into a quartet, or even a double triptych since I can't make up my mind which one I want to paint.

Have a go at them all in different ways!

I once painted a sunset on wet paper so that the colours merged beautifully, then when it was dry, added the hills and trees.

The last one is beautiful, but the other two set it up. It's nicer to have all three in a sequence. Thanks for posting!

I'm glad you liked them. :-)

Those are beautiful. Almost don't seem real.

Oh, they are! We get some amazing ones here that we watch from our bedroom, which has the best view. It rained today so there was a lot of interesting cloud around.

Very nice! The sunset always gets brighter once the sun sets if it's got higher level clouds to illuminate. They're all quite lovely. :D

Yes, Greg said something like that. :-)

I think I actually like the first one best.

Beautiful - may I join you?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-04-01 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Too late--it's the next day already!

Beautiful... I love the second one. :D

Ah, yes, the purple! It is rather nice with the gold.
