From an internet cafe

We had a good trip down yesterday, though I arrived tired out after all that driving. We stopped for lunch in Cambridge, in a cafe in a converted church, and there were two amazing vintage Packards in the carpark, a 1929 and a 1933. Beautiful, gorgeous, glistening, and absolutely perfectly restored. I took photos. On the way we also saw a yellow Lotus like the one the Prisoner drove which delighted Greg, esp since we're staying at The Village.

Which charges obscene amounts for internet wireless--which keeps dropping out anyway--so I'll be calling in at this internet cafe every day or so. Sigh. Therefore there will not be many posts from me, and probably no Scrabulous or other Facebook games unless I have any time left over after I've done my e-mail and flist.

The weather's lovely though: sunny but not that humid, and I'm just taking it easy as I wind down.

We go to Napier on Monday because Greg's going to a Microsoft conference while I will wander round admiring the 30s Art Deco buildings the town is famous for.

Glad you arrived safe. Damn them and their dodgy, expensive internet. Ugh. I look forward to the day when all that comes STANDARD like telepones.

Have a lovely time! Can't wait to see the pictures. :)

We can get cheap wireless, but not where we're staying and only in certain parts of town and I'm not prepared to sit outside by a smelly road or in a stuffy car to get a connection. Bah. So it's this cafe which is at least relatively cool and comfortable.

Yeah, I don't blame you at all! You're on holiday anyway! Who needs internet.

(Yes, I am talking out my ass here. I'd want internet on my holiday too. Only, I take vacations, but you know what I mean. XD)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Bah for the spotty internet, but the holiday sounds like it's off to a nice start. I think I envy you, feeling in need of a stressless vacation as I am. :)

The trouble is, I'll come back to such a huge pile of work, I'm not sure it's worth it. In fact I've decided to leave that job; I can't handle the stress.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, man. Stupid stressful work. :( Well, I hope you end up finding something that suits better. Life's too short to spend buried under work.

I am a free nerd!

Thanks, I will!

I'm glad you've got there ok, and I hope that you can now relax. The weather sounds so much better than what you've been having at home. Enjoy it!

It's raining today but I can't complain because there'e been such a long draught that the country's brown, brown, brown. I just hope it's not for long right here--or in Napier tomorrow or I'll have nothing to do there while Greg's at his conference.

a yellow Lotus like the one the Prisoner drove

Oooh! *flails* :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
:-D We saw a red one, and yesterday Greg saw a grey one. There must be a rally somewhere near here.

30s Art Deco buildings

Please take pictures. I love the look of Art Deco buildings.

Glad you arrived safely. Have a relaxing time.

I hope it's fine so I can tomorrow; it's raining today.

Sounds lkike you're having a good time. :) Is there any English-colonised country in the world that doesn't have a town called Cambridge in it?

Good luck with finding a better job!

Oxford is on another island, near Christchurch (which is much bigger than either). :-P

Thanks to both. I don't want to think about the job for a couple of weeks.

I would guess The Village you're staying at just happens to be called that, and doesn't look anything like the Prisoner's Village.

I visited Portmerion on a holiday with my parents many years ago. It's a lovely place.

Do post photos of those cars and the Art Deco buildings. They sound lovely.

And have good time.

It doesn't look like Portmeirion, sadly, though it's a bit villagey. I adore Portmeirion; I've been there twice, the second time after I met you at Star One.

I just hope it's fine again tomorrow.
