Feet and astronomy

No, there's no comnnection. It's just a double post. :-P

I went to the doctor and it turns out that a known side-effect of one of my drugs is swollen ankles. He said the other leg is in fact slightly swollen too, and the hottest summer for over 20 years plus the recent leg injury (there's still a big haematoma) have made the left one worse. I now have a replacement drug, and he says the swelling should be totally gone in three days or I have to go back. The fact that it's a known major effect is very encouraging, so I'll hope that this is what it is. And my once-slim ankles which I thought had thickened may come back!

In other news, there's going to be a partial solar eclipse next week--about when I'll be taking the cats to the cattery. [rolls eyes] It's going to be 47% which probably isn't enough to give crescent-shaped shadows from leaves as the one I saw years ago did. That one was weird: it was still sunny, but muted. Right, so I'll take the cats in at 4pm, say goodbye (and probably cry as usual), then take my mind off them by watching the moon take a bite out of the sun.

Oh, I'm glad the swollen ankles has an easily explainable source, at least. Let's hope it does go away in three days.

And solar eclipses are always fun, even if they're only partial. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping!

I want to see at least one total one. I saw the UK one a few years ago on TB and wow, the darkness rushed across the sea to the observers. I got chills down my spine, but I want to experience one first hand.

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
I seem to recall having one not too long ago, but it might've just been a partial. I'm terrible remembering that sort of thing. WAtching it come over the ocean would be awesome though.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
the UK one a few years ago

We were lucky enough to be on a cliff in Cornwall for that. Unfortunately there was 10/10ths cloud cover, but we still saw the darkness rushing across the bay towards us and felt the temperature drop. It was very eerie, totally unlike a partial eclipse.

I'm glad that it wasn't anything serious and that it's easily correctable.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope that's what it is! :-)

So do I. But as you say, if it's a well-known side effect...

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's great, and he agreed with me at least partially, the recent injury is having an effect.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
That and the heat, yes. I suppose it's good that it happened so I noticed.

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's good news. Sounds like you should be fine by time you leave for your holiday.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so!

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I do so hope the swelling goes away. That would be wonderful news!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
I would be so relieved!

Glad to hear there's an answer regarding your ankles - here's hoping it's the right one :)

Solar eclipse, coolness! I'm busy on Monday, so it had better not be then. *goes off to find out more*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's on Thursday 7th, and here at least starts around 4:30 and takes two hours altogether. According to the Stardome:
"Maximum eclipse will occur in Christchurch at 5.37pm when 53% of the sun's face will be covered by the Moon. The times are similar for other parts of the country." that may help for where you are. :-)

Ta! That sounds like excellent timing.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope it's clear and Eldest gets to see it.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
I hope your ankles are normal soon.

Enjoy loosing a bit of the sun

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. I suppose it will take at least a day till I see a change.

Well, I hope none of it comes loose! ;-)

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
ha! yes ;0) LOL

always sad to say goodbye to the cats.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
It is. It's the worst part of going away and the best part of coming home.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Here's hoping your normal ankles return soon then. :)

Oooh... (partial) eclipse time again. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
The other one was only a few years ago! I smoked the bottom of brown Arcoroc mugs and looked through those. :-P

[identity profile] bramblyhedge.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hope the drug-switch will do the trick for your leg.

RE: previous post, your new haircut is super-adorable! *_*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. I'm still a bit worried.

It's pretty much the haircut I've had for a few months, just trimmed and shiny! :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good, I'm really glad to hear that it's probably something that simple. Here's hoping the new drugs are better for ya.

Also, yay, astronomy! Eclipses of any kind are just neat.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping so!

We had a partial eclipse a few years ago and watched it through smoked glass. :-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's promising news from the doctor! I hope that he's right, and the swelling goes down - and that the replacement drug fits in smoothly.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I'll still be worried till it does though.

[identity profile] jacteest.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you're okay!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope I am!

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
There's definite reassurance in a known side effect. Don't forget to tell us at the weekend when it's gone down.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the confidence of 'when'. With my medical luck...

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Good ankle news! I guess the lesson is that you should google all drugs your doc prescribes so you're not *quite* so in the dark if side-effects appear.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Googling anything medical terrifies me given all that's wrong with me. Googling swollen feet was bad enough.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It is nice to hear good news from you! Hopefully it will end happy! :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I think it's already looking better.
