A self-sown agapanthus in my garden. I have lots of these, but this one is new and small.


Palm trees at the Ellerslie race course where the wedding I went to on Friday was celebrated in one of their function rooms.


Greg's cousin Michael and his new wife Liz. The wedding went very well, the food was excellent, and the company fun. Pity the aircon which I'd been looking forward to just couldn't cope with this record-breaking summer. :-P


Greg's nephew Ari who was more interested in his 'bling' than anything happening at the wedding. He's such an adorable kid. We gave him a kite that looks like a biplane, propeller and all, and took him to the park on Sunday to fly it. And Greg left the camera behind. :-(

It's Hebrew for 'lion'. :-) What does it mean in Finnish?

One Finnish encyclopedia gives several meanings. It's either derived from Adrianus, or the Scandinavian for "eagle" or the Hebrew one. Hmmm...

Interesting; 'Adler' is German for 'eagle' and it starts the same way as Adrianus. I've heard Ari can also be Greek, short for Aristotle.

Yes, that was my first thought. Aristos means "best", and Aristotle is something like "best purpose".

He is indeed adorable, especially in the necklace, and the bride is lovely. Mazel tov, or whatever's appropriate.

Ari is a darling who is amazingly generous for that age (4). He gave everyone in the group one of the Thomas the Tank Engine chocolates we gave him. And thank you on behalf of the couple; Liz was indeed a very beautiful bride. That's actually not a very good picture of her.

It's been so hot and dry (IOW no rain but high humidity) that you can see the grass in the top left of the first photo is going brown even though it's quite sheltered there. It's the hottest summer for decades. :-P
