DVD purchases

While out to get lunch and food (for cats and humans) today, we bought two DVDs.

Captain's Log - another Star Trek fan collective. The previous one was time travel stories; this one has a captain's (well, actor's) pick for each series, and several other eps picked by fans. It's a nice way to buy Star Trek DVDs as they're good selections and there's too much canon for me to afford--and watch--otherwise.

Alec Guinness Comedy Collection - some of my favourites: "Kind Hearts and Coronets" (which I've been wanting to see again for years), "The Man in the White Suit" (doodlebugs!), "The Lavender Hill Mob" (which I so loved as a kid), and "The Ladykillers" (seen just last year, but hey).

Oh and Blake's Junction 7 is coming out on DVD in 6 weeks, as noted on [livejournal.com profile] blakes7. I've already pre-ordered it. [bounce]

The Alec Guinness movies sound awesome. I haven't seen enough of those, but I loved Lavendar Hill Mob. And I'm vaguely recalling one where he's told he has six months to live and goes off to some resort...

They so are! In 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' he plays about 12 characters including at least one woman.

I'm not sure I've seen the one you mention though. Right now though, Greg's looking on Amazon at more Ealing comedy selections to add to my Blake's Junction 7 pre-order. :-)

I keep wanting to see Kind Hearts and Coronets, but I never stumble across it. "Last Holiday" is apparently the one I saw...

Me too, and I hadn't till now. I was delighted to find it. I'll have to keep an eye out for "Last Holiday".

Ealing-wise (although sadly Guiness free), my favourite (by a country mile) is "Passport to Pimlico".

"Blimey, I'm a foreigner!"

Oooh, I hadn't heard of Blake's Junction 7 before. It looks like a...work of genius! LOL! *adds to wishlist*

I saw clips about a year ago (no longer on line) and it is, it is!

I just love those old films! We've bought quite a few collections like that: classic, war etc.
