New printer, and a geek's wheelie bin

Ever since our inkjet printer died a while back, we've been without one at home--till a couple of days ago when Greg said he was bringing a surprise home. It was a free printer which came with a laptop his company bought for a new employee, so now we have a B&W laser printer. Yay, I can now actually print out stories at home to proofread.

And the wheelie bin? Two pictures under the cut will explain.

A geek's wheelie bin

See the little silvery sticker to the left of the 9? It was on a new monitor Greg got recently...

Yep, this bin is certified for Vista. Best place for it, some might say.

certified for Vista
I whole-heartedly agree! Along with the new version of Word where you have to relearn where almost everything is.

I'm still on 2003 at home and at work and hope to stay that way for a long time.

Oh Goddess Don't talk about Word 2007

The student computers in the Learning Centre (all 39 of them) are all Windows XP and Word 2007. All the staff machines (apart from the two on the IT desk) are still Windows 2000.

Not only are we having to learn Office 2007 by default (yikes) but if a student comes in with a problem file, or the printers won't work, we can't do squit for them. I am just glad I have OpenOffice on my machine here which sort of gets round the problem a little ...

I'm hoping they don't install it at work. The non-technical users there have enough problems with the present software.

When I saw what he'd done, I had to post.

Greg has another sticker like it from work. Where to put it...?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-11-12 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
So far we haven't actually run any Vista in it, not having any about the place.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHAHAHAHAHA!

:-D

Hee hee!

Don't joke, though. If they ever decide to make our bins truly 'smart', who knows what they might install in them. Maybe it would be Vista Rubbish Edition.

Some people think they already have that!

I suppose it would ask you each time you put something in the bin, "Are you sure you want to throw that away?"

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Except, of course, when you were accidentally throwing away something vital. Then, it probably wouldn't say anything at all.
