Facebook

I have joined Facebook, mainly because:

  1. I knew two people on my flist were there (I have found two more)
  2. Someone else with my name (who'd have thought it?) is there and I wanted to establish a presence of my own
  3. It appears you can play games with others, not that I really have time till next month.
So, who else is on this thing, and what can I do with it now I'm there? What are the best and coolest apps to add to it?

Yeah, like I really needed another distraction when I should be finishing my finishathon story. :-P

I just went over there and added you! :-)

The only app that I've made real use of is Scrabulous - you can play scrabble with one or more of your friends.

There's a Facebook toolbar extension for Firefox, which is quite handy, if you use Firefox. Basically, it can pop up with notifications, and gives you quick links to bits of Facebook.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, another friend! I already added Scrabulous as several people I know have it. I'm off to bed now; I'll have to check it out tomorrow. :-D

I do run Firefox! I'll have to look at that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
BTW how on earth do I add that myself to an Auckland Uni graduate network? It seems I have to be still there with one of their e-mail addies, but I see you and others are in 'alum' networks.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
I started a scrabble game with you yesterday, but you don't have to play if you don't want to :0)

Have a look on my profile, I like the geography quiz game, but I've not played it for a few weeks. I like the tv quizzes as well

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
I only just now added Scrabulous! Sorry, I didn't have any notification you were playing. Will it know you already started? :-P I'd love to play but I'm off to bed now. I'll have a look tomorrow when I get a free moment. Is it like normal Scrabble? At last, a way to play games with people in other time zones! [bounce]

Ooh, quizzes sound like fun too! I wish I wasn't so busy this month. :-P

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'll 'nudge' you and if you get it we can go from there :0) It seems to be pretty much the same as normal scrabble

You can add catbook, which lets you sign up your cats, post photos and have them friend other cats!

It's a good place to keep up with people in general but useless as a debating platform - LJ is far better at that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I saw that in your profile. Too much work for this time of night, but a nice project for the weekend. I put my cats up on Catster but had to restrict friending by other cats because some people just do it willy-nilly. At least here only your friends do so. I like that feature. I shall certainly friend yours. :-)

I doubt I'll ever have a large network but I do fancy the idea of playing games without having to do it in real time, a problem that made RPGing just too hard for me in this time zone.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
I just thought of that and was going to tell you. Friend my cats too!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I will when I get my cats up in it! Just about to go to work. :-P

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
I have a friend who's been trying to get me to join. I told him I have way too much to keep up with on the net already. LJ is enough of a time sink! :)

I'm with you on that!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it'll be manageable with just a few friends, and I can play games with them!

[identity profile] kalinda001.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Just added you

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's you! I suspected it was, but I also have another Elizabeth AKA Liza friend in Canada.

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
One of my real life friends is on Facebook and invited me to join last month or so. I haven't yet, mainly because I have enough ways to waste time as it is. I'm slowly warming to the idea, though I believe that you can't ever entirely quit your account and close it down, which is a little worrying.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You can deactivate it, and I just changed all my privacy setting to friends only; previously I think anyone in the same network (New Zealand) as me could see my profile. I doubt I'll ever have more than 10 or so friends so it should be quite manageable.

Cool applications

[identity profile] mossymermaid.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Visual bookshelf, the films application (you can compare tastes with friends)
The "where I've been" application is fun.

Friendhsip quotes is a nice one, as is Superpoke - you can interact in creative ways.

Superwall is good for adding fun videos - PACMAN lets me waste too much time...

I also like the groups, but that's not quite an application.

I saw almost all of those an a friend's profile! I can see I'll be having a good play around at the weekend.

Okay, which of the many Nico Moody's are you? Tried to add you, but couldn't find you! I'm on Facebook (under Bev Heath-Coleman) so feel free to add...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
None of them! I'm Nico Mody, but I put myself under my full name. [goes to add you]

[identity profile] sorsha-khan.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes* oops. No wonder I couldn't find you (serves me right for not double-checking names & stuff...)

I'm over there, but am terribly delinquent... if a Nico" has friended me, hee, I'll know why!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what name you're under! Your full first one or Liza, and which surname?

whoops! Haha, I'm under Elizabeth Jean Fletcher McCall.

I still can't find you!

I'm Nicola Mody, not the blonde one. :-)
