Happy birthday, Sputnik!

Happy birthday to Sputnik, 50 years old today (well, yesterday for me). Google's also showing an orbiting sputnik today. :-D

I hadn't noticed that Eldest was born on the 20th anniversary of Sputnik, but as OH said , I did have other things on my mind at the time.

I remember the surprise and amazement when we heard the bleeps on the radio.

Greg is always very happy that his birthday falls on the anniversary of Gargarin's space flight.

Dad had a lot of old Giles books (I bet Mum threw them out) and they did a lot of Sputnik cartoons.

Coolness! And a ukelele is the closest you'd get to a balalaika there. :-)
