Ficathons

The Finishathon voting has ended, and there was only one vote between each of the three stories I submitted, which got 11, 12, and 13 votes respectively. I'm relieved however that the winner is the one that isn't likely to turn into a novella. I have no idea how it ends, but I suppose I can just start writing and see where it goes.

I have till 26 October, so I should knock my Labor Day party one off ASAP as that's due in two weeks. I have however yet to think up what to write about "clones, androids, or robots", great topics though they are. Ideas would be welcome.

But it was the only time I felt vaguely connected to the list last year...

The trouble is that I feel it's my fault the FAQ haven't been updated to show that we moved to a new address more than two years ago, so no one can subscribe unless they know how to ask. And I don't know what more I can do, as I've asked the admins to update the FAQ, I've rewritten the FAQ myself and offered it to them, and I've offered it to the person maintaining the page. But all these attempts have been ignored, so I'm at a loss. And I know the list would have died anyway, because that form of forum has been left behind, and the fandom's very weak too, but I still feel I've hastened the end by not enabling it to attract fresh blood.

I admit I ignore a lot of the posts (and have filtered out one member). The fiction party can be good, but people do seem to be losing interest in that too; it's not even run on the traditional weekend (whenever that is) any more.

Perhaps we would get more members if people could find out how to subscribe via Hermit. Can [livejournal.com profile] watervole help there?

There are new young fans coming along on LJ fairly frequently though; perhaps here is the future.

I sent the updates to [livejournal.com profile] waveney, who maintains the site, but that drew a blank too.

And yes, there's not a lot of point being there unless that one member is drowned out by more interesting posts. But I seem to feel that I can't leave unless I've left the door open.

That's extremely frustrating. Do you know either of them well enough to ask again?

At least GMail filters her out well, and its threading by subject means I can ignore what doesn't interest me. The Lyst is also moribund. Perhaps it's just that mailing lists have had their day.

I think it's just that the internet is so vast, everything gets splintered and it's a lot harder to find groups/people than it used to be.

I know the Lyst is moribund... but I'm sucked into Doctor Who at the moment, and I get enough discussion of that on my flist to mostly satisfy me.

Maybe we ought to do a "one episode a week" collective viewing thing. I keep on meaning to rewatch B7, but I keep on not getting around to it. Maybe this would get me off my rear and actually do it, if there were other people doing it too.

Oh, I think that's a really good idea. Not simultaneous watching because that's far too hard and restrictive, but maybe an ep during a set week to discuss at the end of it. Do we do it on the Lyst or here?

I haven't watched a whole ep for ages: just bits to refresh my memory. I'd like some impetus to go through the series again (with the exception of 'Blake' and 'Animals').

Yes, one ep a week, I'd say. And on the Lyst, for two reasons (a) to make the Lyst less moribund and (b) a mailing list is still a better method of continuing interactive discussion, IMHO.

Suggest it, and I'll back you up and promote it here!

Done. I also suggested we kick off the discussion on Mondays, and the first one be Monday 10th September.
