Once in a pink moon

The moon's in a clear patch of sky and it's gone pink!

It reaches totality in about 40 minutes. I hope it's still clear then.

hope it stays clear for you

It didn't, but I got some more glimpses.

Apparently it's the scattering of light in the earth's umbra. It cleared now and then so we saw some more.

I was grumbling elsewhere that we had only a few tantalising glimpses of the encroaching shadow, and then the cloud solidified. But it did clear again a little while ago, so we got to see the red moon. Fingers crossed it stays clear for a bit longer; nasty cold wind out there, though.

I saw the bites getting eaten out earlier and a few glimpses through the one upstairs window facing that way of totality (fairly dark and reddish) but I wasn't venturing outside again, not in that wind and occasional horizontal rain. I'm glad you saw some of it too. :-)

It stayed clear for the rest of the event, hurrah! We mostly went outside to look (well rugged up), but later on it was visible through the living room window. Not the same, though!

I kept popping out until gone midnight, and it looked very cool with the bright blue-white glow reappearing alongside the rust. It was about three-quarters back by the time I went to bed.

I've been humming Pink Moon by Nick Drake since I read this ;0)

Maybe he named it after an eclipse!

Watch out for the Wild Hunt then!

Ah! I thought that was just the wind howling!

Love the icon!
Tonight the moon rosehere very bright it looked like it truly was shining, I couldn't even make out the Man in the Moon it glowed so much.

You must have had really clear air.

No actually it was cloudy the light reflected off the clouds as well.

Absolutely cool. I love moon eclipses :)

I managed to see enough between the clouds to satisfy me! I envy the Australians who sat on their verandas with glasses of wine and watched it all. :-)

It was pretty awesome, wasn't it?

I've seen one during the day, so I've never seen it go red. Very cool.
