Mixed feelings

Annoying

I feel so stupid. For a start, I'm so tired I just want to sleep which is probably making things worse. I've been up early for about three weeks now, and this has been an incredibly busy week at work as well.

Today I went to the Ribbon Rose (local craft and gift shop) and bought beads because making a pair of earrings to go with a necklace I made in March would be a lot faster than drawing anything more than a very quick sketch. I thought I had headpins. I have no headpins. I cannot buy the damned things till Monday or Tuesday now, so there goes that idea. Now I have to think up something to draw before I go to bed. [hits self over head]

I'm also annoyed that I only submitted unwritten stories to the Finishathon when I have a more than half written B7/Star Trek TNG crossover that, if it won the voting--which would be one chance in four--would be a lot less work to finish off than writing a whole new story. [bangs head on desk]

Satisfying

I bought a really nice Chinese teapot and three bowls from the Ribbon Rose really cheap because someone broke the fourth bowl. Eh, even with two, it would be a nice set. Maybe I'll have to draw it. I may be desperate enough for subjects to do so.

This morning I went to that local church jumble sale/fair/garage sale that I went to last year and bought:

  • one of those tall jars for pasta (the seal on my old one is perished and disgustingly tacky)
  • two more Petra Ceramics coffee cups--a different pattern from the lemon and the flower ones I already have, but hey, Petra!
  • a wooden Finnish plate, square and slightly concave like a sushi plate. It's very spare and modern, completely unused, and made of birch with an off-centre strip of curly birch and was only 50c. Underneath it says, "Valm: visa/koivu" which I deduce means "Wood: birth/curly birch", and "M-real Simpele". If [livejournal.com profile] snowgrouse reads this, I'd like to know what that means.
  • a biography of James Cook for Greg (Cook is one of his heroes)
  • assorted homemade pickles and biscuits
Not as good a haul as last year, but not bad.

Now I have to think up something quick and easy to draw. :-(

Stop hitting yourself! *hugs*

Valm is short for variations on "valmistettu" and its associated verbs, i.e. "made of/manufactured/made from". Visakoivu=silver birch, AFAIK. M-Real is a manufacturer's name and Simpele is a place name.

I'm just tired and feeling very snowed under right now. I'm doing Tessa's last treatment of the day and going to bed. :-)

Cool, thanks! I just made a straight (and wrong) word-for-word translation, :-P

I liked it before I turned it over--so simple and elegant)--then I had to get it because it would remind me of you. :-D It's very pale/blond except for the 'curly birch' strip which looks like a light brown version walnut. Lovely!

Tessa's just cone to get me. She thinks it's bed time and she's right!

Yup, birch is quite nice and pale and is perfect for little things like that:).

Sleep well!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I did, but not long enough. I have an inertia problem: changing my state is hard. I take a while to go to sleep, and then I can't walk up easily.

I might have an afternoon nap. It's easier for some reason if I'm reading with a cat. They beam sleepy thought waves at me or something. :-)

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*Squish*

And I meant to say, you don't need the plate to be reminded of me when you eat! That sounds sweet and slightly embarrassing at the same time and I blush now. It's funny 'cos this place is all birch when it's not all pine in that Exactly Like Gauda Prime way. I can hear tall silver birches' leaves rustling outside my window as we speak.

Cats are fantastic at the sleepy wawes, so much of their whole existence is about the art of napping. I find I get to sleep easier if I have the big fat furball purring at my feet. Sometimes even looking at her makes me sleepy. When it doesn't make me go AWW, FLUFFI TIEM instead...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I won't eat off it; I might damage it. I have some nice stained wooden fruit that would look nice on it.

And yes, I don't need it to think of you. :-) It's just very cool that it's Finnish.

It's weird with cats: they'll send me to sleep in the afternoon, but at night when I'm trying to go to sleep, their purring and moving about and rhythmic lickiness is just a distraction. I should have more afternoon naps.

Thanks! The thing is, that bead shop is hard to park near during the week. I'll have to try to get in and buy headpins (is that the right term?) and the ear-hole thingies(whatever they're called) after work.

I can make another necklace though if I get up the energy. Then I could buy beads to match that when I go in. [tries to see positive side of stupidity]

Yes, I believe headpins is the right term. I forget what the ear-hole thingies are called.

Stress not. 8-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Earpins? Probably not.

Yeah, I am stressed. It's a lot of things: not enough sleep, worrying about Tessa, being too busy at work, doing daily art, realising I haven't written for the Hirothon and I'll have to write stories for the Finishathon and a fiction party at the same time...

It all just piled up.

I suppose this means you can't beta my very late Multiverse story then? 8-P

Depends how long it is and what fandoms.

4800 words, Doctor Who (Ten), Vorkosigan'verse, but familiarity with only one of the universes is okay.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-25 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I know both of those, but when would you want it by?
kerravonsen: Tenth Doctor: Like Chocolate (Doc10-chocolate)

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2007-08-26 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I know both of those
Wonderful!

but when would you want it by?

ASAP? The story is very late, and it would be nice to get it in before the authors are revealed, though I suspect I won't.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm. Look, send it to me and I'll try to get to it this afternoon. I'm about to go out now.

Ah, got it. It was in my spam folder; don't know why.
