Day 22 - Five-minute sketch

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge is in the spirit of [livejournal.com profile] drawanyway because I drew anyway. I didn't have much time what with taking Tessa back for a post-op checkup and going to Russian class, so I thought I'd try a fast 5-minute sketch without worrying about proportions and accuracy.

Me studying Russian verbs

My NaArMaMo 2007 Gallery is here.

This is absolutely lovely.

Thank you! I should try to do more spontaneous stuff.

I like the freeness of this.

Thanks! As you can see, esp on the foot, I didn't bother erasing. I'm surprised how well it came out. The colour splashes helped, plus the fact that I've always doodled people.

Time for a warm bed. I'm still cooooold from class.

That looks so professional!

Though if you're studying, I'm surprised there isn't a small furry feline peering round your leg and getting in the way of the verbs...

They preferred the heater!

Besides, there's a good reason you can't see a cat or my face; they'd take some actual work!

That's good. I think you should illustrate children's books.

A few lines and you appear on the page, I agree with [livejournal.com profile] kalypso that style is perfect for baby book illustrations.

Thank you! I'm considering trying that and greeting cards, but I have no idea whom to contact.

Greeting cards isn't too bad an idea either, now that you mention it. Or those bookmarks you see on sale in bookshops - that's much, much better than some of the designs that offend my eyes at the cash registers...

That's a lovely free sketch; I really like it.

*applauds*

Thanks! I'm amazed it the reaction for so little work.

That is so nice! You did it in 5 minutes? You're amazing!
I agree too...you'd make a great children's illustrator.

Thank you! That sketch was so quick, and you can see (esp on the shoe) that I didn't bother erasing any mistakes. :-P

I'm fine at drawing people free-hand like that; other things take more thought.

Wow. Well, now you can never say you haven't time for art, when you can make something so great in five minutes!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Point taken. The next few days are going to be really busy so I may do more of these.

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So simple and so effective. I can almost hear you conjugating those verbs.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I studied them so well, I forgot I was supposed to learn all the numbers too. :-P
