Day 21 - Avon checks his umbrage collection

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge is another odd one. The idea came from Vila who said in one of my stories (Mistaken Identities) that Avon didn't need to take any umbrage as he had plenty of it already. I know I said no more fanart but I'm flailing around for ideas here.

that's funny...

:-D He's being very cautious. Some might get out.

(grin)

If you're flailing around for ideas, perhaps you could offer to make people LJ user icons?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Someone said early on that they didn't consider them art. :-(

I've thought up six ideas I can use; just need four more now.

Someone said early on that they didn't consider them art.

That's news to me -- phooey to them! I know [livejournal.com profile] jekesta considers anything creative to be art, and she's the one running it. I made icons last year, and I've made icons this year, and I'm going to continue to make icons (I asked for requests and I'm darn well going to fulfill them). And at least one other person has been making icons.

For narrow-minded people I don't think a single thing I've done this month qualifies as "art", since I haven't sketched or painted anything, just photographed, digitaled and crafted.

This is supposed to be fun, not a chore. Hey, why don't you make some necklaces? That should be a nice change, don't you think? And I know you have an eye for colour to make pretty ones.

{hug}

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes! I was going to make a necklace, and some earrings too if I manage to get to the bead shop on Saturday to find some that match a necklace I have. Thanks for reminding me!

I think she was laying down rules for herself, rather than anyone else. If the latter, she ain't a relevant authority.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Never mind: I think I can manage if I make some jewellery. I just have to get to the bead shop this Saturday. This month is busy, but I should have time after the local church fair I'm going to fight my way through for books and other interesting finds.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. It amuses me. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

Tomorrow I have to take Tessa to the vet, then go to Russian class, so it's going to be a very fast drawing.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I love it!! It's him...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :-D

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
He takes umbrage so often he must have more than one box. have I ever told you I like your sense of humour as much as I love your art work, which is a lot.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :-D

I considered drawing him with a microchip on his shoulder...

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, by season 4 he had a whole motherboard there.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
ROTFL! Explains the big shoulders.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Or a macrochip :)

[identity profile] glittermouse.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
And there was me with a horrible Dolores-in-a-box Harry Potter crossover going on.

I love his cautious expression :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Avon taking Umbrage in that sense doesn't bear thinking about!

Thanks! He's even using tongy things. :-)

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that line about Avon having enough umbrage already. I can just imagine Michael Keating delivering it, and Paul Darrow doing that 'pretending I didn't hear you' expression.

I really like the detail of the sleeves in that drawing - the folds and shading. They give a very good sense of the fabric and movement.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love writing dialogue for those two. They both have such vivid and distinct voices and expressions.

Thanks! It's one of his very early outfits and they're nearly as big as Blake's.

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I enjoy writing them, and loved the dialogue I wrote for them as Sheriff Darrow and Deputy Keating, especially in 'Darrow's Badge'.

Deputy Keating is an Englishman now living in Wyoming. He starts to reminice about the travelling fairs he saw back home, and his friends there. To which Darrow replies:

"If that's the kind of company you used to favour, I'm surely not surprised your family packed you off to commit your indiscetions on another continent. A shame it wasn't Australia."

When Keating is trying to talk Darrow into having a go at one of the carnival stalls, Darrow says

"Why should I waste a dime in order to win some tasteless knick-knack ?"

Keating answers: "So you can donate it to the next church tombola and pretend to have a heart."

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, yes! I've read that one plus the sequel with the bad woman kept prisoner in their apartment in the snow (poor wounded Keating!). Unless I've got the titles mixed.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great, though the umbrages look like they need a new box, they barely fit that one.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Avon considers whether to find another secure box, then remembers that the Liberator has vast unused holds which, knowing this crew, he will need.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Bwahaha Yes I think by the end of series 3 he'd need a cargo hold for his umbrages (or is it umbragi?).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Scorpio's hold was too small and he regretted blowing up the basement section of Xenon base. I blame the lack of decent umbrage storage for season 4.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The umbrages are ripening! Soon it will be time to harvest them! Clever idea and I do love Avon's sleeves.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
They're fermenting! Vila wonders if he could use them in his still.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Umbrage is pretty strong.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
And far too bitter! Vila abandoned the idea after a sip that screwed his face up for several hours.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's much better as marmalade.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2007-08-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Fantastic line. Great picture to go with. Early series hair!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Yes, it's very early season 1 Avon.

Oh, that's ADORABLE!!

:-D He's hoarding it till the right release time.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH! SOrry, mental image of Avon, at the head of this army of creeping crawling umbrage....

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Seething, roiling umbrage, yes!
