Day 18 - A nice cup of tea and a sit down

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge is number two in the Hot Beverage series and another hand-painted picture of a hand-painted cup - and teapot. The teapot is that shape because it sits neatly in the teacup when I'm not using it.

Hand-painted teacup and teapot

It's odd; it really didn't look right till I added the little white highlights.

My NaArMaMo 2007 Gallery is here.

Very good, I've got one of those sets at home, it looks like a cat. I'm off home today so that is a possibility for next week.

I'll give it a try when I get home but it will be a pencil sketch, I've come to the conclusion I need lessons before I do colour again.

Very nice, you're making me thirsty.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Do you take your tea black too? :-)

The only tea I normally drink is herbal. Though I have recently started drinking rooibos tea. Ordinary tea upsets my stomach. It's not an allergy, I don't think it's even an intolerence, I think it dates back to when I was small and a cup of tea coincided with being ill and I've never been able to enjoy it since.

I have rooibos tea! Very nice too.

Yeah, there are some foods I can't eat because the same things happened to me: accidental aversion therapy.

really do love your style...like the cup, this one makes me want to pick it up and take a sip...

the white hightlights do add something to it...makes it less flat

Thank you! Yes, they add shine and depth.

I might make an icon out of this one too.

I love how you got the colour and light of the tea.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's the right colour, but I don't think my attempts to make it look transparent worked.

The proportions of each item are good, and your use of colour, shadow and highlights is excellent.
My only quibble would be that the cup/saucer and teapot are presented from different angles. The teapot is seen side on, while the cup is seen more from above. I wasn't sure if you were really aware of that.
Now read my first paragraph again, and feel better :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-18 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The teapot is further away. That's how it looked to me. Try holding up a cup then moving it away from you keeping it at the same height; the angle changes.

OK, so I put the pot too far back. It fits in the cup so it's the same size.

I like it but the Cup looks a lot bigger than the teapot.
Those white highlights really make the China look real though.

The teapot is further away.

The highlights really make it. The teapot and saucer actually shine. Excellent work.

Thank you!

You have lovely taste in virtual crockery.

And I now need... coffee (odd, I took after my parents and drank tea when younger, but once I joined the Public Service - coffee it became, all the way)

It's the same shape and pattern as my real ones!

I drink a lot more tea than coffee, but I have at least one coffee a day. and in the weekend Greg makes me cappuccinos. :-)
