Plea and Punquin

If all goes well, I shall be buying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows tomorrow. It will probably take me a week to read like last time, because I don't want to eat it all at once, plus I've got a lot on this week (the film festival and the start of Russian classes). I've heard that people have already been spoiled. Please do not spoil me or anybody else, and please keep all your comments behind cuts. Thanks!

And in other news, I've had to abandon the Components layout with all its nifty features and go back to the simplicity of Punquin Elegant because Components was just so slow in the IE I have to use at work. I apologise to anyone without Firefox who's found my LJ or my posts slow to load. PE is indeed elegant and fast; pity I can't access the edit, tag, and memories features from outside a post.

I know the feeling. I loved Components, but it froze every other window I worked on.

My original design was Punquin. I use Nebula now, not just the name's cool, but because a friend was able to do her CSS voodoo to get my tags list in there, too.

I like having the Edit and Update on the same page where I'm working.

Re: HP7 - No worries about spoilers from me. It will be at least a month, by my calculations, if not longer, before I can read the book, due to the waiting list at the library.

Components was so nicely modifiable. :-( I also like a layout that adjusts to different window sizes; some look great but don't wrap the text. It was the last straw though when I found IE couldn't handle all the comments I got on the local terms meme, though trusty Firefox was fine.

I have a link to tags and memories anyway, and I've changed to standard comments to get at the links from within a post at least. Which takes me back to where I started. Sigh.

Harry turns into a pumpkin at midnight :)

(Of course, if he now does, you'll kill me)

I'm using (I think) Smooth Sailing at the minute, not perfect but near enough what I want. I used to have Quite Lickable but I couldn't work out how to add tags.

Someone on my list mentioned a comm where people put up layouts they've designed... I must dig it out...

Hmm. Smooth Sailing could be made to look a bit like Componenants. I shall check it out when I get home.

I found it pretty easy, and I'm a Luddite (the reason it took a while was because there's a lot that can be tweaked :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
There is, but I may stick to Punquin; I prefer the symbols to words for the meta links. :-)

Avoid the NYT and the Baltimore Sun online, then; they have reviews out.

I'n in the middle of Julian and neglecting all else!

That's not very fair! A cruciatus on them!

I take it you're enjoying it then; I'm pleased. I just got an e-mail to say I can collect Creation from the library. :-)

You might as well call this weekend 'Harry Potter Weekend', with silence everywhere as people sit down and read it...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I also have three films to go to this weekend, but I'm sure I'll get some reading in. :-)

From the amount of Harry Potter wibbling on lj (or my flist at least), I get the impression I could run through the middle of town stark naked on Saturday morning, and no one would be around to notice. Everyone would be home, reading.

Or I could do someting more practical, like rob a bank, while no one's paying attention.

*Is this a possible cunning plan for Avon ? Start a best-selling series of novels that will keep everyone engrossed while he raids Space City*

A cunning plan! I won't be reading all day. I'm going to the market and then a film, but I'm about to go out for breakfast and, I hope, the book.
