Cool (and not so cool) stuff, with added penguins

Greg ordered a new espresso machine to replace the one I bought years ago which has been leaking irreparably. It came yesterday and it's so complex, I shall have to read the manual before playing. I mean, it's programmable. I think this means we can set it to fill our cups to the right height for each of us so they won't overflow if we get distracted by the toast burning. It's this model, the red one in the smaller picture.

Greg also ordered an egg cooker that one of his colleagues said was really good. It's one of a range of appliances with personalities and I have to say I find this trend a bit disturbing. The Eggo looks like a mutant chicken with no head and three legs. The egg cups that came with it are even more worrying; they make it look like Sylar came for breakfast. [shudders] I think I'll stick to my old marble egg cups, thanks. This thing had better be good to make up for the tweeting. At least it's the same virulent orange (much brighter than the picture) as the old Braun coffee grinder I inherited from my mother, so I'm not adding a whole new eye-hurting colour to the kitchen.

Another in the 'cool creations' series is Woddles, the penguin waffle maker. There you are: just what the you always wanted: penguin-shaped waffles!

The best of the rest is probably Mikey Martian the milk-shake maker. :-P

This reminds me: I must get round to taking a picture of something much more nightmarish at the local mall.

Not sure about the eggo, but like the penguin! Coffee machine looks the biz though :0)

If the Eggo works well, I'll gladly use it (try out on Saturday morning). The egg cups though? Just no.

With the coffee machine I could run a cafe. :-P

I actually rather like the egg cups. Not enough to pay overseas fares for them, though...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-06-22 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
No, they wouldn't be worth the freight, and they'd have to be well packed too; they're quite light, hollow china.

Anyway, Greg's colleague who told him about her Eggo has three children, and he's going to give them to her so that she has four. :-) I have six lovely ones of white marble myself which I shall continue to use.

The egg cups are the ugliest I've ever seen! Just look at their feet!
The espresso machine is cool, though, as is the waffle maker.
You might be interested in an "Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher" :) - in short: "Clack" - or do you have one already?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know! They have orange boots on, and not even the same orange.

LOL, I don't have one! Very cool, but you can't get them here. I just hack the tops off with a knife. :-P

Those egg cups are GHASTLY. The eggo itself is rather nasty too. I think I'll stick to boiling eggs in a saucepan, thank you.

The penguin waffle maker is more pleasant to look at, but you can't really see what the waffle looks like - wrong angle and cunningly hidden under a lump of ice cream.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm assured the Eggo works very well (trying it out on Saturday), but yes, it's not an attractive thing. I will keep it in a cupboard. As for the egg cups, I'm not sure whether I'll throw them out or keep them as an example of deliberate ugliness. I certainly can't use them.

Greg mainly got it for poaching eggs which it's apparently good at. I doubt we'll use it for boiling much because we do ours for different times and that's much easier in a saucepan, but a good poached egg can be harder to achieve.

If I set the teleport co-ords, will Vila send me some coffee & penguin waffles? (u can hold the eggs, that eggo-thing looks evil...).

It does! It has feet and wings and no head. And I already had a nightmare about it two weeks ago when Greg told me he'd ordered it and showed me a picture. :-(

Vila is on his way with cheesy toast as first course, penguin waffles with chocolate sauce and some of Avon's ice cream, and a cappuccino with a shot of A&S in it. I have trained him well.

[identity profile] sorsha-khan.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
HUGH grin. Love Vila, love Vila with all that scrummy food even more.

Just. Don't. Tell. Avon. About. The. Ice-cream.
Ever.

Indeed. Whilst I *blushingly* admitt to prefering the Avon's of the world (i.e. snarkly, dark & infuriating), Vila is so beautifully adorable. The sort of person you'd want as a brother or best friend. *Cuddles Vila & offers some of A&S distilled from coffee*

He so is! Have you seen Heroes yet? Hiro is the same sort: so cute and utterly adorable.

[identity profile] sorsha-khan.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No I haven't. What's it about? Heard a few people on LJ mention it, but no-where else, either it hasn't caught on in England or just not something my friends r into.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin* I have an egg-shaped egg cooker that goes in the microwave. It makes 4 perfect hard-cooked eggs that peel cleanly, so I don't mind having what looks like an ostrich egg cooking away.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds good! This thing basically steams them, I think, after piercing them so they don't explode. I assume yours does too. I really hope this is as good at boiled and poached eggs as Greg's colleague says.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine doesn't pierce them and so long as the eggs aren't cracked they come out perfect. The bottom half holds water, then a metal tray with holes and 4 round indentations holds the eggs just above the water, and the top of the egg goes on like a dome.

Oh, here it is! It got an excellent review- which I agree with. You do have to *cough* eggsperiment to find the exact right time with your particular microwave.

That sound very like the Eggo except it steams them; you put in different amounts of water for soft or hard and it stope when the water's gone. I'll have to see how well it works in the weekend.

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The shape I could live with. But "it tweets"???

I'd put this thing out of my misery the first time it did that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about the tweeting. It could be worse though: it could cluck. If it works well though, I can forgive it.
