Volcanoes, a cat, and cricket

I didn't do much that was exciting today, but Greg did. I bought him a three weeks early birthday present: an hour's flight over the three volcanoes (Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro) at the other end of the lake. He took lots of crater and lahar pictures, plus a good one of The Village as he came back in to land.

We were visited by a cat this morning, a magnificent and very friendly Birman (think fluffy Siamese, blue eyes and all). I don't know if he belongs here or is a neighbour's cat looking for daytime company. Unexpected cats are the embodiment of serendipity. :-)

We also watched NZ beat Canada, who are another team with promise. I hope that teams like Ireland, Kenya, and Canada will get invitations to play the more well-known teams in future, but the big cricket news is the murder of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer, an appalling tragedy. News just in as I type: they seem to have arrested someone for it.
[Edit] No, it was a completely unfounded rumour from Delhi.

The police are denying the arrest. You two seem to have wonderful birthday ideas. I do hope we shall see Greg's photos! If you're anything like me, you were scrabbling frantically for a camera when the cat came round and couldn't find one!

Yes, it seems it was a spurious report from Delhi.

Greg got lots of pictures of steaming volcanoes and crater lakes, and I have several of the cat; he was rather a poser. He was so cute, following me around the apartment. I'll put the photos in an an LJ gallery when I get home, and do some picspam posts. :-)

I agree, I met a lovely one on the walk home from work yesterday.

I made the cake, it was great! I left out the alcohol, and it's still lovely - thank you for the recipe :0)

Yay! Now you too can enjoy cakey treats! I'm sure you can adapt it by adding different things to it.

Judging from the Burmans I knew donkeys years ago it was probably looking for daytime company. They are very people orientated beauties and the ones I knew would climb you if you ignored them, luckily it was the time of the maxi so only my clothes suffered

Our cats cry and paw our legs if we ignore them. This little guy meowed every time I stopped touching him, then settled down at my feet till he suddenly decided to leave.

We're upstairs though, and unless we leave a door open or see him on the stairs again (outside ones good for sunning on) I doubt I'll see him again. He was adorable though, and posed beautifully for the camera. :-)

Stunning icon.

Looks as if India are out of the Super 8's.

You mean the tabby? :-) He looks just like Sam, our old family cat.

We heard Sri Lanka beat them. We don't get to see matches we're not in, but we'll get all the Super 8 ones.

You mean the tabby

I think it's the green eyes staring up at you that attracts.

We don't get to see matches

I don't get to see any of them, we don't have satellite. I depend on the radio, which does mean I can do something else at the same time. I made a batch of half a dozen curried prawn flans this afternoon.
