From Taupo

We're in Taupo, and on sloooow dial-up, so don't expect too many comments from me for two weeks. I'll also have to look at photos, manips, and YouTube links when I get home. :-(

We had a good trip down, and when we go back through Tirau on the way back, I'll have to stop and get photos of the huge building-sized sculptures made of corrugated iron: a sheep, a dog, a shepherd, and just about every sign.

It's cold, windy, and intermittently wet, which I hope is just the aftermath of the big storms we've had. I didn't bring enough warm clothes, damn it: just a fleece and a rain jacket.

So far we've just veged out: slept, watched TV and cricket, and read. There are some cool things to do when the weather improves though, including a Puzzle Park. 'The Village' which we're staying at is in fact very Villagey. We are in Number 14 though, to Greg's disappointment. The failure of the paper we ordered to arrive outside our door will not however break our spirit. We shall see Number One about that tomorrow.

We've been reading Arthur Ransome Swallows and Amazons books and have come to the conclusion that Roger is a small Vila with his practising sleeping before bedtime, desires for snacks at any time of day, and being happy with anything that come "as long as it keeps coming".

Roger is a small Vila

Who grew up to invent the asthma inhaler.

And I am very grateful to him.

Greg swears that Michael Keating did a TV asthma drug ad once, but I can find no evidence of it.

And very appropriate too, what with Vila's weak chest. :-D

Have fun regardless of the weather!

I'll try! I think it's meant to improve tomorrow. I hope so.

That sounds like a good holiday so far to me, rain notwithstanding! Well, OK, maybe not the cricket-watching, but as an American, I think I'm excused from that. :)

I tend to get cabin fever after a few days, and most of the other stuff I want to do is outdoors. And I might run out of books, which would be terrible!

I hope the weather improves

It will; I just hope it's soon. Like tomorrow. :-P

I'm glad you got there ok - and I hope that the weather has improved by now! In the meantime, spending a couple of days just taking things very easy sounds good. There's been a lot going on; you deserve some de-stressing time.

I do! I usually figure I need several days of relaxing get into holiday mode. It's sunny now, even if still windy, so today we might go somewhere once we've had a leisurely breakfast. :-)
