Cat picspam

We're off to Taupo tomorrow but I don't feel as if my holiday's started yet because I'm tired out after doing as much as I could of the next two weeks' work.

I put the girls in the boarding cattery today after work too which always makes me sad. They're very good, sitting in their cage in the car without complaint, and as usual, Tessa leapt straight into the taut little hammock that she likes at the cattery. Vic will stay here at home and be fed by a neighbour because he got so stressed last time we tried to board him, he got ill. For a big thug the vet likened to Horse, the Footrot Flats cartoon cat, he's a wimp. He's also less likely to wander off looking for company than the girls, and it worked well last time.

I took some pics of them last night and this morning.

Tessa and Claudia on the couch last night when we were watching TV

Tessa and Claudia in their basket this morning. They've been sleeping in the laundry basket all summer but with the sudden big temperature drop this week, they've gone back to snuggling into their old sleeping bag (once mine)

...and with the laundry basket free, for the first time in months, Vic could claim his old favourite spot back. I bet he spends most of his time there while we're away.

I'll miss them so much for the first couple of days, and they're the best part of having to come home again.

I love it when Tessa and Claudia are suggled together :0)

I miss ours terribly when we are away, I try not to think about them, but we end up having conversations about where we think they are sleeping (they have the run of the flat bar the sitting room, unlike when we are there and they sleep in the kitchen). It's lovely to get back to them.

It's the best reason to come home again! Do you have someone in to cat-sit yours?

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
They're so cute when cuddling, it's such a lovely sight.

Even if it's without cats, I hope you'll have the most smashing, relaxing and uplifting holiday ever. You deserve it!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
And I need it! I haven't been to Taupo (it's a town and a lake) before, other than driving though, so it'll be interesting and fun. When I come back though, I'll have to 'hit the ground running' as my boss put it to catch up, but at least I'll have two short weeks due to Easter. :-P

I have a picture somewhere of Kitty with exactly the same expression as Tessa in the basket!

My cousin's just been staying here, and was shocked I didn't have a "puss cat", but it's the going away that bothers me - I've had three long weekends away since we went to press, and I'm going again twice in the next fortnight.

Well done on getting through so much, and enjoy your holiday.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you could time-share one.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, some cats like Vic can handle that as long as a neighbour feeds him twice a day, but the girls are very much people cats and need their human cuddle fix. We do go away overnight and just leave food out for them though.

BTW I might not be able to see ep 3 till I come back due to paying for internet access. I'll take my code in case it's not too expensive. :-D

Those kitties never get any less beautiful. :)

Enjoy your vacation!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have a good try! :-) I have five library books to pick up before I go; I like a good mix of relaxation and exploring and doing stuff.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I always take a bunch of books with me when I go on vacation... Even if I'm out doing stuff all day, it's great to have reading material to relax with before bed. (Well, that, and my trips usually involve plane travel, which is unbearable without a good book.)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd go spare with a book to read. I'd just off to the library now to pick them up.

I love your cats, Vick reminds me of the Big Red Tabby from next door to the Luddites, he looks like a big old bruiser that would take your hand off as soon as look at you but tickle him in the right spot and he melts like butter in the sun.

I do an animal/house sitting service but expect the owners to pay the difference between my trip to work and my trip to them. About £700 should do it, I'm quite happy to travel Tourist.%P

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the neighbours are a bit more economical. ;-)

Vic use to be a half-wild stray and very bitey and scratchy, but he's tamed down into a big softie. He slept on our bed last night with the girls not there.

Lovely photos :)

This photo came up on Cute Overload recently, and I immediately thought of your girls.

Have a great holiday! We lived in Waiouru in the late '70s, and visited Taupo quite often - I bet it's changed a lot since then.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's gorgeous, very yin-yang. :-D

I'll have fun getting to know the area. Up till now I've always gone to the sea (or over it).

[identity profile] jecono.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoy your holiday! :)
The cats are so cute - but I do feel sorry for poor Vic, he doesn't really hang out with the girls, right?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They tolerate each other, but they never cuddle up with him. He'll miss us more, but he'll have the laundry and the baskets to himself while they're away. :-)

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
We only manage to get away because my daughter's still home - ours are too old to go to catteries any more.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Tessa and Claudia aren't that young any more, but they've been going to this cattery all their lives and they like it there. Tessa likes it so much, she ignores us when we come back; Claudia's happy enough but she's always there to greet us and cling to us when we turn up.

Awwwwwww! Lovely cats.

I hope you have fun on your holiday.

Thanks to both!

I'm off now.

I suppose it's a pity you can't take them with you, but that might not a relaxing holiday make. (The parents are going away in a caravan the week after next, and they're taking Rusty too. He thinks the caravan is his travelling kennel :-) ) Enjoy yourself hugely.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I agree. I took them once, to my sister's holiday house, and spent a lot of time making sure they didn't wander off.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2007-03-16 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Some very cute cat pics there! I hope you have a good holiday (and with better weather than we've had this week).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Only slightly better so far. It's cold and windy and I didn't bring enough warm clothes: just a fleece and a rain jacket. :-(

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Poor you - sometimes it's hard to know what to wear at this time of the year. I hope your weather improves.

It's wet and gusty here at the moment (big surprise). :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's raining here now. Every time I think the sun's coming out, it rains again.

It's meant to be fine tomorrow though, she says hopefully.

It should be written somewhere that Holidays = Lovely Weather, that's for sure.

If it weren't for this whole pesky "living on the other side of the planet" thing, I'd offer to cat-sit anytime.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, thanks! Every time I think of them, I miss them. I rang the cattery yesterday, and they're fine.
