Cool links

I've had a tough week and I seem to have injured my eye (the other one this time) but never mind. Have some cool links (no, not the ones on Terminal).

First up, the steampunk keyboard mod.

And now for the Top Gear guys launching a space shuttle replica Robin Reliant (little three-wheeled car) with wings. 9 minutes of geeky wonderfulness that even the Mythbusters (as far as I know) haven't equalled - and what's more, it works amazingly well but for a problem with separation. I love those guys.

I love Top Gear, they have the craziest stunts. I saw the Reliant Robin first on the Sunday evening broadcast and turned over last night just to see it again on the repeat. The only thing they've done that comes any where near it was to convert a car so that it would both be drivable legally on the road and that could complete a course on a lake, amphibians.

We ended up with a speed boat pick up, a narrow boat camper van and a sail boat convertible. The first two sank, the sail boat got a flood carburetter and couldn't get out of the water under it's own steam so although it completed the course it was deemed to have failed. Those presenters are certifiably insane.

Like Scrapheap Challenge which I enjoy, though Robert Llewellyn annoys me with his constant time checks and determined alliteration.

I also liked the caravan one, though all they really did was blow it up. The people in the park were so funny, and I have some unpleasant memories of being trapped in one of of those every summer with a bad-tempered father so it was a bit of catharsis.

There's something about steampunk that's very appealing.

Have you ever seen Miyazaki's Laputa? I think of that as an AU steampunk 1920s.

Miyazaki's Laputa?

It was on TV this week while I was at work and I forget to set the video. :-(

First up, the steampunk keyboard mod.

That is a marvel, it really is.

Someone posted a link to a page with another shot of it. Have a look here (http://chiefted.livejournal.com/354065.html). :-)

Some really nice touches there. Someone pointed out the roman numerals for the function keys, which I missed seeing before. I'm not surprised that there's been some drooling over it :-)

Yeah, that's a particularly cool touch.
