Day out

Now that was a much better day.

I had breakfast and a Greg-made cappuccino (a weekend treat), had my hair cut--at the time I was booked for (stupid people; my hairdresser said to "speak to the boss: her"), had a Turkish lunch with Greg, booked into a jewellery-making class in March, went for a walk in Cornwall Park, went to the circus, went for another walk in the park (we'd parked our car there), bought blackened fish and kumara chips for dinner, and watched the end of The Beiderbecke Affair.

The circus was Cirque du Soleil's Varekai and was wonderful. We had front-row seats round the side, and this wasn't the best choice: I got a crick in my neck from looking up at the aerialistes, and one act was best viewed from the front. But OTOH I had a great view of the amazing costumes and make-up, and their faces as they worked. The character the story revolved around was Icarus, which was strange after the Icarian imagery in the LJArchive plug-in I mentioned here.

[Edit] Oh yes, and there was a hairless pink female character with tendrils I immediately decided was a Gratuitous Space Lesbian. :-)

I was just about to comment to ask you how the circus had gone! That sounds like a lovely day altogether. I'm glad that it was so much better - and I hope that tomorrow is, too.

It will be: a nice relaxing day with no plans at all so far. :-D

Excellent! A plan to have no plans.

Sounds like a wonderful day indeed! And the cirque du Soleil is always wonderful!

I've saw Allegria four years ago, but missed Quidam when it came here. I love the artistry and acting they add to the concept, and the music too. It's a feast for the eyes and ears.

Sounds like you had a wonderful day!
"The Beiderbecke Affair" was a great story, its a pity they didn't do more!
One question though what is blackened fish and kumara chips?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-01-27 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
They did make more! There's The Beiderbecke Tapes and The Beiderbecke Connection, and Amazon.co.uk have them all as a boxed set (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beiderbecke-Collection-Complete-free-CD/dp/B000ICLHJ8/sr=1-1/qid=1169933292/ref=pd_bowtega_1/202-1447207-7681440?ie=UTF8&s=dvd), which is what we bought. On to the next one tonight, probably.

Blackened fish is fish rubbed with Cajun spices and put in a hot pan so the spices blacken and the quickly-cooked fish is moist and tender. A friend's father used to do it outside (because of the smoke) in a pan made red-hot with a blowtorch! We buy ours at a local gourmet fish and chips shop which also sells such wonderful things as Thai fish cakes, crab cakes, salmon kebabs (i.e. on a stick)...

Kumara is the Maori sweet potato. It makes very tasty chips and is healthier too: lower G.I. though it tastes sweeter. Yum!

I meant more than the original 3 actually but I suppose I should have made that clear. The other two are just as good as the oruiginal - if my memory serves me right.
The Beiderbecke Affair was re-shown recently on digital TV.

That is definitely a different sort of fish and chips.

I needed one after the last couple at work.

It sounds like you had a better day! :D

Cirque de Soleil is great, isn't it. I went to their show a few years ago and I really enjoyed it...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-01-28 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Which one did you go to? I saw Allegria, the first one that came here, but missed Quidam.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2007-01-28 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
I went to see 'Quidam' - it had a Alice in Wonderland type plot, and was good. :D

now there is a day to make you smile :0)
