Site update: Blake's 7 cartoons

I have added my Blake's 7 cartoons to my site -

Simpsons-style B7
Molesworth-style B7
- and updated the art page and the links page.

Do you know the Molesworth books?

I am in awe, not only damn close to the original in artwork but also in the words I can see Molesworth writing about the crew exactly like that. Definitely in the spirit of "Whizz for Atoms"

Thanks! Another Molesworth fan! I adore those books and used to do cartoons for friends at school; and one day the Latin teacher asked me not to rip the middle pages out of my exercise book in future because she loved the murderous Romans I'd drawn there and left in by mistake.

Your lucky, our teachers were not appreciative of marginalia!
At least you didn't do the Jennings bit!

The Jennings bit? I loved those books when I was 12-14; I must read them again.

The Jennings bit
Poetry like :-
"Latin is a language,
as dead as dead can be.
It killed the ancient Romans
And now it's killing me!"

Hahaha, yes, I remember that! We also worked out how to say things like "Mihi date osculum" (give me a kiss).

cave magister! (beware teacher)
mind you as I got older
sodomy non sapiens! (buggered if I know) - pig latin that one but couldn't find out the actual Latin for the first word!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-01-01 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
We did that in Maori too, but another way: Maori words strung together. The whaka- prefix (passive voice, said like 'fucka') is useful for that.

Pakata whanau = buggered if I know

The tribe called Whakauwe got a lot of jokes:
"We're the Whakauwe."
"You're in Rotorua, mate!"

Just remembered: another Latin one was "Abi in malem rem!" for "Go to hell!" We didn't know the word for hell so we used 'bad place' which I think was actually a term for it way back.
