I wanna get off

Bad, bad, and more bad

I already have to book Claudia in for blood tests before her imminent operation (teeth scaling) but Tessa's the one who's going to the vet tomorrow. When I came home, she was curled up in her bed which is not at all unusual, but by the time she got out and showed us her limp (a poorly paw on the left side) the vet was closed. So I'll have to take her in tomorrow before work and leave her there for the day, poor little girl.

And as for work, my PC is still away being experimented on. The power supply went belly-up and killed the motherboard and now the new one can't read the RAID. I'm really worried they won't be able to recover the data from it. [whimpers and bites nails] I thought a RAID was reliable. I only backed up the files I used and changed in case I messed up and needed an old version, which means the static and historical stuff may be gone. Not to mention all my e-mail contacts.

And it's cold. Yes, we got the Aussie weather.

Good

Well, I have to think of something, and I suppose this is it. Greg's gym is having Christmas function next week at a bowling club: lawn bowls, games, and a barbecue, which will be fun and very unusual; much better than those affairs where everyone stands around with a drink in one hand and a canapé in the other while trying to make conversation with strangers. I just hope it's not raining.

*HUGS*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I'm going to bed now.

Poor Tessa, I'm sorry. I hope that her paw isn't seriously hurt. Can you see anything wrong with it?

This is just silly about your PC! But it's difficult to believe that the RAID isn't readable at all. Do they have any other PCs the same as yours, that they could try swapping your disks into? Fingers crossed that they can manage to sort it out soon. *hugs* :-(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It seemed all right when I felt it. Last time she was like this, her paw was twice its normal size.

I don't know. When I ask questions and offer Greg's help, the off-site people who have it get offended and say they're in the business and do it all the time. How how come it's been a week? I can use the part-time accountant's PC three days a week, but I hate that: it's slow, I only have the stuff I backed up to CD two weeks ago, and I don't have Firefox or the GIMP, which I use for image manips. I'm so frustrated I may try downloading them into my area on the file server.

So sorry. ::hugs:: I hope that the cats will be all right and that everything will look better soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

Oh poor Tessa :0( Silly cat for not letting you know, I hope she's ok.

Stupid work computer too :0(

I like the idea od Greg's party. I much prefer parties when there is a purpose as I am terrible at small talk

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. With my luck lately it'll be raining so I hope they have games they can do inside.

And I thought computers were supposed to make life easier, though from personal experience it's corporate computer techs that muck things up. Give me a good independent any time. They have to be good to keep their customers.

I hope Tessa is better soon, hopefully she only mistimed a leap and it's a simple strain. sleep well.

It seems to me nothing's ever simple with cats.

You wouldn't want the current Aussie weather -- top of 39 today!

True, but given recent weather, poor Vilakins is as likely to have violent thunderstorms on the day as she is torrid weather :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have no idea how warm or cool to dress most days.

I hope the good side goes into credit soon, especially for poor Tessa (and then Claudia).

Me too. :-)

Hugs to you, your work computer and your kitties.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Though I don't think that the work computer deserves one.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Even Oracs need love. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Orac deserves a swift kick in the diodes.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

Hope Tessa is OK. I never thought of cats bruising their paws before it first happened, but mine have managed it on several occasions since then.

They should be able to access the RAID, though it might take specialist kit to do it. It happened to me once, when I got hit by a lightening spike and it fried the processor, and I think in the end I lost one file. Now I keep everything possible on multiple media - which possibly accounts for why the office looks the way it does, and why sometimes I find myself working on a file that is several versions old.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
My cats have had bee stings, bites, abscesses from fight injuries (mostly Vic, but all of them at times), arthritis (Claudia) and for that matter a partially-detached retina which required an op from the animal eye specialist (Tessa). They're worth it, but when too many things happen at once like now, I get defeated.

Greg says they should be able to get the data back but when I asked, they said they didn't want his help. The boss is in today; I shall try to get her to OK help from Greg or an outfit called Computer Forensics.

Given what's going on at the moment with your PC I thought you might enjoy this, of you haven't seen it before, it's just come from one of my alert groups.

Hee. The hardware guy apologised to me today for buying a box with such a crappy power supply.

Good luck to the pussies. Shall be thinking of you.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

Waah! *huggles* Good luck with the 'puter and the poor kitties. *squeeze*

Thanks.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, poor cats and 'puter. I hope all are recovered soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-21 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

May there be many more good things in store soon!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-22 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Here's hoping. I got the PC back today but it's still got problems (software ones). I'll have to call one of the IT people back since I'm no longer an administrator.
