Delta Blues won!

I put some money on Delta Blues [points at icon made a while ago] for the Melbourne Cup--and it won!

I put $3 each way on Delta Blues (win!), $1 on Delta Blues and Pop Rock for a quinella (win!), and $3 on a trifecta for Delta Blues, Geordieland, and Maybe Better (2 out of 3). So I think I get about $140 for my $10. If I'd got the trifecta, I'd have made $3,300. :-P

But hey, dinner out and a bottle of wine on Vila! :-D

I know [livejournal.com profile] sallymn and [livejournal.com profile] jomacmouse put their money on the Delta too: how did you guys do?

I think the party hat and drink combo is highly appropriate :)

Oh, and $24 from a $2 each way bet, brother reckons. I think he's hinting that I buy dinner sometime, but not, obviously, from so classy an establishment as $140 would get you. Which you and Greg should enjoy the heck out of through that windfall :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
So you had $1 each way, $2 in total? Yeah, I think that's about right. :-) Lunch!

And we will! I'm considering which restaurant we'll hit.

Mm, yes, what sort of food you both like - big consideration.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thai, Indian, Malaysian, fusion, Italian...

Mmm, yes. Mama Rosa's or Molten I think.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
I had $2 each way on Delta Blues and the one that came third, so made about $50. Dinner it is :)

Maybe Better?

Yay for irrepressible Deltas! Vila will be eating out a lot this week. :-D

Yay! and now you have to go back to that seedy TAB ;)

You might have more idea of how to claim your winnings than I do, then. Or maybe not. Brother put my bet on for me while I went to buy the local newspaper, but this morning he says he hasn't the foggiest how one goes about it. Learning experience time...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He collects them from where he placed the bet. Here it's all computerised; they just feed my tickets in and it tells them what I'm to be paid.

[identity profile] jomacmouse.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I gathered the first sentence, yes :) But the feeding the ticket into a machine or handing it to someone who'll feed it into the machine for you is what I don't know and will have to find out...

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, go you! Or, rather, go, Delta Blues! But then, we know how great Deltas can be. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
We do! Knowing them is always worthwhile. ;-)

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I've known a few Deltas who could run, too... generally when being chased by authority.

Congratulations!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Avon!

Yes, Vila can put on a good turn of speed when he needs to.

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hahah, that is brilliant!!! Vila for the win!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I owe it all to him!

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
When I heard the name on TV this morn I did wonder if you would have!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
How could I not? [dances round the room with Vila] I even braved the seediness of the local TAB to do so. I'll have to go back there tomorrow for my winnings.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant! I hope you have a great evening out with it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It won't be till Friday or Saturday because of having to work. I shall have to decide on a restaurant and book it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's all due to Vila! [hugs Vila tight]

[identity profile] peladonww.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Good for you! Enjoy your meal and have a nice bottle/cup of something to go with it. Are you going to follow his form now? More meals on Vila in the future perhaps?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. The Melbourne Cup is the big race down here (think Grand National) so I doubt I'll hear about him unless he runs over here.

I put some money on Sollin when I went to the races a couple of months ago. I did all right that day, but not on her.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'll hear about him unless he runs over here... yes, he was a Japanese horse, wasn't he? As was the jockey, whose only English seemed to be the words "very happy!!!"

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
There were two Japanese horses in the first three, weren't there? We do get Australian horses running here, but I doubt he'd come here; we're too small.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, first and second were stablemates from Japan.

[identity profile] jomacmouse.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
but I doubt he'd come here; we're too small.

Maybe, but the Melbourne Cup is not exactly BIG and world-renowned either, or at least in this point of time. If one of your countrymen and women breeds the next Phar Lap (and keeps him there, instead of selling him off to somewhere else), who knows who'll be beating a path to your races with wonderfully named horses :)

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Deltas rule! Enjoy your ill gotten gains.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
They were well-gotten, thank very much! And I will!

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations Vila would be proud of you

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
And it was all because of him!

Awww, you have a Vila icon! [deploys another smiley Vila]

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, what fun! :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D [still bouncing]

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
:-) It even brightens a stormy day and the predictions of crap weather till February.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D And go Vila! Deltas have a good turn of speed.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well done! My work did a sweepstake, but I think my horse is still running, lol.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Our office is too small to run a sweepstake, but when I saw that name in the list, I decided I had to bet on it as a mark of loyalty to Vila.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. :-p
