Blake's 7 retrospective on BBC4 this [edit] next month

Richard Calla, who has a major B7 site, was informed by the BBC of a new SF programme coming up, and he posted about it to a B7 mailing list.

BBC Scotland are making a series of six SF retrospective programmes for BBC4 to be shown in October. The six shows are Blake's 7, Adam Adamant Lives, The Tripods, Doomwatch, Star Cops, and Survivors.

Contributors so far for the Blake's 7 programme include Chris Boucher, Pennant Roberts, Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow, Sally Knyvette, Michael Keating, Jacqueline Pearce, Peter Tuddenham, Orac and Zen, Mat Irvine, Kim Newman and Steve O'Brien. It will include new unseen outtakes and bloopers, and they will show an episode after the documentary, probably Blake.

The programmes will start airing in mid October which isn't far off.
Richard will post more news as he gets it.

For those of us who don't live in the UK, is there any chance of anyone recording these, or at least the B7 one?\

[Edit:] According to [livejournal.com profile] watervole who ought to know, the programme will start airing in mid November with Blake's 7.

My ability to record stuff is very unreliable, though I'll try if someone reminds me.

I hope someone lets us know when it's on! The other programs should interest a lot of people too, though I only saw The Tripods. I should watch the ancient Star Cops tapes I got in a job lot once.

I should watch the ancient Star Cops tapes I got...

Yes. Yes, you should :)

I'd like to see the retrospective series, too.

Yes. Yes, you should.

The thing is, we keep buying more DVDs than we have time to watch. I might watch a couple or eps and see if I like them enough to get on DVD. Those tapes are pretty old and I'm not even sure they're a full set.

Yes, we're struggling to even keep up with stuff recorded off broadcast telly. And then there's the purchased DVDs, and the BoT's figured out torrenting as well. It's all piling up :/

I seem to recall that there were just three Star Cops tapes. I've got a set around here somewhere, bought 'em off eBay years ago.

These were recorded off TV by someone in the UK.

Yes, we have exactly the same things piling up, and the new season's just started in the US. So far, we're only downloading Lost (and Prison Break but I don't watch that); I've given up on BSG. I may download Torchwood too if it's any good.

Star Cops was an excellent show. I really think you'd enjoy it. Good acting, writing, plots, drama & interesting characters. And the space scenes were very cool. And I really liked their theme song.

I should have watched it while Greg was away. I was really stuck for entertainment because everything we have he wants to see too. I must look for it.

Eep. Tapes. So last century.

Star Cops only ran to 9 episodes before it was canned.

Thanks, I'll see how many I have. If they're not very watchable, I can get the DVDs.

Ooohh... if there's the slightest possible chance it might screen here (yeah, I'm optimistic!) I know I would like to see 'The Tripods' one (and B7, of course).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's the only other one I've seen. :-)

Same here... I was always sad though that they never filmed the third book of the Tripods series. :-(

I wonder why they didn't. I suppose the SFX got too expensive.

It was very annoying. The BBC had dumped Dr Who and put The Tripods in its slot, and then they dropped The Tripods as well, just as it was getting into its stride.

I didn't realise that. Back then, it took years for a series to get to us. Now it's usually only months. :-)

Green Wing season 2 started tonight!

Ooh, wow, thanks for the heads up. That sounds really interesting.

It does!

My copy of Radio Times arrives on Tuesdays, so I may be able to give you a few days advance warning.

Thanks! The whole series sounds interesting.
