Yeah, that seems about right

Bugger. My hosting service appears to have changed my password again and I can't update my site. Why can't they leave well alone? [stab] I'm beginning to think they do this if I don't update regularly; maybe it's a misguided security precaution. Not that it matters much; the story has extremely limited appeal containing as it does only traces of Avon. [sigh]

This has been a crappy day: wet, thundery, and I forgot to buy stuff I needed from the supermarket and it was too horrible to go out again. It was enlivened only (and very well too!) by playing on the B7 RPG and chatting on Yahoo with the players. I need comfort and I have no chocolate. I shall have to resort to toasted cheese sandwiches and Rome.

In the meantime, have a link to the Minnie's latest B7 photomanips - five B7 AUs - if you haven't already seen them! The 'City' one is particularly lovely; Vila's expression is just perfect.

I'd be livid if they changed my password even once. I suggest you phone them tomorrow and demand an explanation. Phone works better than email because they can't ignore you. If the person who answers doesn't know, ask to speak to someone who does.

I can see why you like it.

Oh, c'mon, I want to read it. (sends encouraging vibes in your direction)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
They're in the US; I can't phone them. And I really don't feel like dealing with it. Greg has all the details because he found them and set it up. I just get sick of this happening.

You'll have to wait till I can put it on the web unless you want me to e-mail it, but it's Dayna and Og. I think I have a readership of two for that.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'll read it. These days lack of Avon (or more accurately lack of Blake-and-Avon) is something that encourages me to read.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
You're one of the two. The other is Steve, though the lack of squick and sex may put him off.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, tha makes sense, though I can think of a couple of others who'd want to see it as well straight off.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
I daresay I won't get it on my site till next weekend, if then. Greg usually deals with the hosting service when they stuff up like this and he's not here; I don't have the security codes or the patience.

Someone told me it was hacked recently; that might be why I can't get at it though they fixed it straight away.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, I'll just have to read the FC version for now.

This sounds like the kind of thing readers demand to know about before beginning a story. Warning: contains character death and traces of Avon . I suggest you give the story a title like "Avon Away", so that your potential readers don't immediately realise what you're up to, and rely on them getting so gripped by the story that they finish it anyway. A change of diet is good for people.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
It can upset the digestion at first though. ;-)

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, but but perpetual self-indulgence is bad for the health in the long run. A dose of moral fibre now and again is the perfect antidote. "I'm afraid you're suffering from fannish indigestion, brought on by a surfeit of OTP. I prescribe a strict diet of gen fic, containing no more than traces of your favourite character."

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Contains traces of Avon? Put like that, it makes him sound positively harmful. Oh, wait...

Bah to your hosting service!! Changing your password under any circumstances is out of order.

I hope that cheese and Rome have helped, and that tomorrow will be better.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Cheese and Rome helped a little. I need to find a reliable and cheap local hosting service. It seems you can't have all three or even two.

No indeed. That's why I'm running my own server -- at least my ISP is local. All the cheap hosting services are in the USA. Some of the not-quite-so-cheap ones are reliable, but they're still hosted in the USA.

Avon the peanut, yes. Absolutely scrumptious to some; cause of severe allergic reactions in others :)

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'll read Avon-lite stuff (I've written Avon-lite stuff... I think).

Mind you, at the minute I'm trying very hard to finish my FC story, 6300 words in and a mess, so I may have to do something small and sweet to toss in tomorrow while I get there...

So reading needs to wait while writing gets done.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine was 7000 words. I'll have to be more succinct for the finish-a-thon one but at least it's about 50% Avon.

I look forward to reading yours. :-)

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're underestimating the interest in stories that don't include Avon. Though perhaps there's not a lot in Og.... Anyway, try to just think about more pleasant things until Greg gets home. ::hugs::

[identity profile] shimere277.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a lot of interest in Og? That doesn't bode well for the birthday fic I'm writing for Steve...(of course the Soolin/Dayna bits might help.)

As for the FC party - all the people who commented on my story are on LJ. The people who commented on entropy_house's story are the same five people on LJ who comment on everything. Min's hilarious photomanips got a better reaction, but still - the same five people who comment on LJ. My sense of the FC list is that writing for it is like dropping a stone into a bottomless pit.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're right. Many of the people who wrote and commented last year seem to have left. Maybe mailing lists have had their day.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm always interested in reading about aliens. OK, Og wasn't that interesting in the episode (who was?) but he's a scientist with an alien culture.

Thank you :)

Thanks for giving me a plug :) Thats lovely!
Im so glad you were happy with the 'city' pic :) I had you in mind when I started it :)
And thanks again for being the only place I could find the 'right' pictures to use!

I just love the way he looks at her in that shot--so tender--and you've made him look possessive and proud too with different body language. :-)

I love the Avon and Cally ones too; Cally is wonderful and Avon's such a dork.

[identity profile] minnie13.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
LOLOL! I thought Avon looked sexy with a touch of girly. But there you go! he DOES look like a dork! LOL!

That expression on Vilas face was perfect, i had to find a way to use it :))

Hey, you know I like Gen. I won't ask if there's a happy ending as well, I don't want to spoil the pleasure.

I never did sign up to FC, so I'll have to wait until next week.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have it up earlier than that. :-)
