Various things

I'm feeling rather jaded and sort of peripheral to things. Maybe it's just that I'm tired; certainly of coughing. [yawns]

Greg went to Singapore this morning for a week on business and this doesn't help. I miss him so much when he's away. Even though we're both introverts and often in separate rooms doing our own geeky or fannish things, we also do a lot together like talking about said geeky and fannish things, going on outings, doing cryptic crosswords in cafes, and bemusing visitors by laughing at exactly the same thing on the box.

The cats always make packing fun though. Sorry, the images aren't that sharp because I took them in low light.

Claudia on Greg's laptop bag: absolutely no sense of volume. She looks as if she knows she's being left behind.

Tessa in Greg's suitcase. Both the girls do this; we had to lift Tessa or Claudia out every time we added another item to the case. :-)

But yay, my Rome season 1 DVDs came today along with Futurama season 3 (thus completing our Futurama collection, the rest of which we picked up second-hand). If I wasn't trying to do two ficathons, I'd power up the DVD player right now.

I've almost finished my Freedom City story which has finally got to the big climactic scene. I'll have to print the thing out at work this week and check it through, then get it beta-read. And then I'll have to immediately start on my finish-a-thon story which will probably be a lot longer and doesn't yet have an end. This one worries me. I feel tired thinking about it. At least I've cut back on [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse (only Vila still does it) and have finally decided not to knock myself out doing [livejournal.com profile] b7friday and [livejournal.com profile] glarmaco every week. :-P

hopefully the time will pass quickly x
Cats and packing = hilarious! Even if I put a plastic bag down they try to get into it, when it comes to suitcases it's madness

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
Mine adore boxes and bags too, but suitcases are such a magnet, I can capture Tessa when she's being skittish just by opening the cupboard they're kept in and scooping her up when she rushes in.

Wah. My cat once made me feel really guilty by packing himself in the front pocket of the rucksack we were planning to take on holiday.

Do you wear your OH's jumpers when he's away? I always do!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, I think that would make me miss him more. :-( As it is, I keep thinking I hear his car coming home and it's in the carport. I'll have cats pressed up against me all night in bed though. They get extra cuddly when one of us is away.

Aww, what a cute and clever cat! I don't know how they know before we even get the suitcases out.

They get extra cuddly when one of us is away.

Aw. See, they know you miss him.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
And they miss him, plus the affection is all concentrated on one person. I had them all over me in bed last night; Claudia nicked half my pillow which is what she usually does to Greg.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, those cats are heart-breaking!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
But I'm still here with them, giving them lots of cuddles!

But of course! :)

Tessa's expression looks very determined. And how could one resist Claudia looking like that...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
They're both adorable and almost always irresistible (except when they're puking in the laundry as one, I suspect Claudia because of the grass blades, did this morning.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww. I hope you feel better soon. Or at least less cough-y; loneliness is bad enough without being sick on top of it. (And I'm starting to develop a bit of a cough, myself, as my allergic reactions slowly migrate downward through my respiratory system and into my lungs. Gaah! Everyone should stop coughing!)

My cats do exactly the same thing with suitcases. I think it's a combination of "new place to sit!" and "thing the human's paying attention to that isn't me!" that's just an irresistible draw to them. :)

And I'm glad to hear you're making good progress on the FC thing. They're definitely not getting more from me this year than the drabble I already did, though. The charity story is already over 5,000 words with the end still not really in sight, and I haven't even started the finish-a-thon. Eep.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I am just so sick of coughing after that cold months ago. It's always months of coughing when I get a cold. And now I'm sneezing as well because of spring, but the sunshine and flowers are so cheering I don't mind that as much.

The FC thing has to be posted this weekend! I was too tired to work on it last night but when I get it done and proofed, can I please sent it to you for beta? [checks] It's 6000 words but pretty near finished.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, send it along when it's done.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And the bed is never as comfortable with the different weight distribution, is it?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
We got a new one this year and it handles that so well it feels the same. However I had Tessa against my legs and Claudia on my pillow last night wrapped around my head which is a sure sign Greg's away as they usually do it to him; he's more accommodating that way. I'm such a light sleeper I've taught them to stay away from me in bed (he sleeps like a log) but when he's away, I let them do it.

[identity profile] britgeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What pretty (if grumpy!) kitties! :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-27 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
They're really very sweet-natured and so affectionate. It's the 'Burmese pout' that makes them look annoyed sometimes. People often think Tessa has a particularly mean look when she slits her eyes, but she's the most adorable, cuddly little thing.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Your two darlings look very determined to go with Greg. If my finger counting is right Greg should be back tomorrow my time , today your time (2nd October)so all four of you should be happier by the time you read this. We had similar trouble with Sue's dogs when we were packing to come away from the cottage. As soon as they saw the suitcases come down the stairs they all headed for the garden gate and would not move from it to let us out to pack the car. Sue had to pack them first and they all just sat there without trying to get out while we packed round them. They were determined they were *not* going to be left behind.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He's back in two days (Wednesday my time, Tuesday yours).

That's so cute about the dogs. The cats would never do that; they hate car trips because they only take them two places: the vet and the cattery. At least they have me here for company though getting twice as much attention isn't always good. My keyboard is full of cat hairs.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sues dogs are 'working' dogs as she competes in both agility and obedience competitions which all the dogs enjoy enormously and so they look at a trip in the car as a trip to do something fun with treats at the end of the time in the ring ( a small bit of strong cheese or garlic sausage) so they get in the car with greatly pleasure.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-10-01 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense! Every dog I've known loves car trips. I've only known two cat who did: one a friend's who sat on the dashboard like a plush one, and the other was one of my sister's who used to jump in the car to go to her beach house, which she does a lot.

Thanks, that's my Losyn the wonder dog one that [livejournal.com profile] snowgrouse tidied up the lettering for me. for me.
