Just when I thought I was getting better...

If having a cold wasn't bad enough, I catch some sort of stomach bug on top of it. I probably got it at the doctor's. No one else I know has it and Greg and I ate the same dinner last night. And you know what? Even if it's not at fault, I don't think I can face murtabak again. Aversion therapy works well on me. I still won't eat luxury flake bars after a regrettable childhood incident.

I thought my dreams of Vila on the run in a huge gothic castle pursued by nameless evil were what was making me fell ill, but waking up and changing position didn't help. In the end I was very sick most of the night and half of today (I couldn't even keep plain water down). I rang the nurse at the doctors' clinic and she said to just sip boiled water, which isn't easy when you feel like you just crawled across half of the Sahara. I still haven't had enough, but Greg got me some electrolyte replacement stuff. Dammit though, I just want to knock back three glasses of ice-cold water in quick succession.

I do feel a bit better though, despite an enormous inertia which keeps me in one place from sheer lack of energy. I hope I can go to work tomorrow because I was half-way through a project they want finished and I also have something here they need for it. Bleah.

And I was going to do a banner for the end of NaArMaMo too. I'll see how I go.

*Huggles* hope your tummy gets better soon.

Thanks. Having two cats at once trying to sit on me doesn't help it much though. :-P

No, I noticed that when I had a gastic bug in early August. But that was one dog, not two cats :) I hope it doesn't hang on for much longer - it's an almighty nuisance :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm almost better, but still not 100%. I'm taking it easy and being careful about what I eat; Greg's sister had relapses for a few weeks and no way do I want that. It's boiled water and lemon tea for me for a while.

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Get well soon!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm feeling a lot better now, though I haven't eaten anything. :-)

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
No I don't think I would like to have even one cat trying to sit on a tender stomach. I hope you feel better soon. The lethargy is probably due to the loss of electrolytes, if you can keep the replacement liquids down you should be feeling better soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think I'm finally starting to. :-)

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Drink hot lemon & honey and see if that helps you and Vila against the Nameless Evil :)

Failing that, bed is good...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm about to go there. :-)

If some of the recommendations your sister has made to me for lurgi hastening-off in the past is any indication, you're letting vilakins off lightly ;p

I'm trying to be good. But I know the book Sis gets them out of, it [livejournal.com profile] vilakins wants a good laugh or a good fright (ps - slugs and snails are really part of the recipes, dear [livejournal.com profile] vilakins... and by no means the worst part).

Ewww! Homeopathy: fighting slime with slime? Reminds me of that story about Barry Humphries sticking an oyster up his nose at a posh London dinner then turning to the titled woman beside him and asking if she had a hanky.

I think my cold is pretty much gone, terrified away by Thursday's stomach bug. I wouldn't recommend the cure and I still don't feel quite right yet.

Do you two know each other in RL?

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Jo knows my sister through her fandom, and me through mine. Serendipity, I think it's called :)

It would be more serendipitous if toads weren't involved in some of the recipes concerned. 'Though it did give an opportunity to compare disliked characters in the program concerned to those amphibians...

Do you two know each other in RL?

I've met Sally's sister once, a few years ago, when a group of us who liked The Bill met up with a fellow fan from Northern Ireland, who was out here to visit his really good friend, who lives not far from me, oddly enough. Sally I've not had the opportunity to meet, but I'd be happy to if the occasion came up :D

:-) Small planet!

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
nasty, sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm starting to. It was probably a 24-hour thing.

How about sucking on an ice-cube, would that help?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
I have boiled water that's been chilled and this is good. It just took ages to cool down.

Oh dear, sounds very nasty. But ice-cold water sounds like it might be a shock for the stomach, so cautious sipping is probably the right idea. Hope it sorts itself soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
Cautious sipping worked, though I spent most of the day with a raging thirst. I think I'll be OK tomorrow.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Poor you! I hope you recover soon...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I'm starting to feel better now. :-)

poor you :0( I hope you feel better soon.

I can't go near hot cross buns after an incident when young...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I wondered what you had against them. :-)

[identity profile] shimere277.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no! *hugs* Get well soon!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, I will! The weird thing is, it seems to have frightened my cough away. :-)

Oh, dear, I hope you feel better soon :(

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
I seem to be coming right now. :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no. :( Like everyone else, I hope you feel better soon.

And that food-aversion thing can be very powerful, indeed. There's a certain specific type of canned soup that I ate and liked right before I came down with a hideous bout of strep, years ago, and to this day I can't even think about what it tasted like without feeling repulsed, even though I know perfectly well soup doesn't cause strep.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly the same with me. :-( There are certain meals I just have to think of if I want to make myself sick. (No, I will not think of them now...)

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't be sick. :( Though at least you have the perfect icon for your post.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-31 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] snowgrouse made it. :-)

I'm feeling a lot better, thanks, though still a bit fragile.

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Ergh :-(

*Virtual, er, electrolyte replacements?*

Hope you feel a bit better now.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I do, thank you. It must have been one of those 24-hour things.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hope you're feeling better now.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
I am, thanks! I'm even starting to get my appetite back. I am considering a cup of tea with some toast. :-)
