NaArMaMo Day 17 - Cats in a basket

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge is a cat picture!

Cats in a basket

Drawing with colour wash
My sweet girls, Claudia and Tessa. I can't draw fur like [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house so I went for simplicity. I'm quite pleased with how Claudia's pewter nose catches the light as it does in real life.

My NaArMaMo Gallery is here.

Waah. lovely.

They're much lovelier in real life!

Thank you!

Oh lovely!

I was trying to articulate what I really liked but I hadn't had quite enough coffee. Let's try again: I love how with just a few simple lines you've got the way that cats hold themselves, particularly Tessa's shoulder.

Wow, thanks! Tessa's really hard to do too because she's so dark.

Simple and very effective - brava!

They're actually in the plastic laundry basket but I couldn't be bothered drawing that with its slotty bits.

Awwwww.

OOh, that's so sweet! Who says you can't draw anything but people! They're perfect.

I can't draw animals from my imagination like you. (People though? No trouble.) This was from a quick sketch of their basic shapes and positions so I got the proportions right.

Awww! :)

They are so 'essence of cat'. Wonderful.

Thank you! As is Pippin-panther!

This is lovely ... and you're very brave to sketch from life -- you have to be fast, for that, before one of the cats decides it's time to play with your pen. ;-) I also love how you've captured Claudia's gaze.

My first lines were just their body and head outlines, which is why they're such simple shapes and Tessa's face isn't quite right (I guessed it). I was amazed I managed to capture Claudia looking at me like that though. :-)

NEEEEEEEEP. Kitty bliss!

:-) I may draw Vic tonight.
