NaArMaMo Day 10 - Design for stained glass window

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge.

Design for stained glass window

Graphics tablet
We have a long pane of glass to the side of our front door. I've always fancied having stained glass put in there, a scene a bit like this one but longer and thinner.

My NaArMaMo Gallery is here.

Aw, nice and rather cheering. Do you think you'll make it/have it made?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-10 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
There are stained glass classes around. Maybe I'll do one some day if I can find one in the evening. I'll have to start small though.

Nice! It really does have a stained-glass-window feel.

Thanks! I played around with the colours to try to get that uneven and milky colour glass often has.

That's lovely! I was thinking of doing a stained-glass quilt, but that's more than a one-day project. Perhaps I'll just do the design. Though it won't be as lovely as yours, of course.

Why shouldn't it be? Don't sell yourself short!

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-08-10 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm not. I'm still barely beginning to sketch; I have no idea at all how to do colors. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect a first try to be as good as someone with your talent and experience. I do try not to display false modesty; I know how annoying it can be.

Lovely!

Thanks! Mind you, I'd have to move the monster yucca that's in the front porch. I should plant the thing but I'll need a huge great hole and I don;t fancy digging it.

oh that's lovely. One of my book group members does stained glass, it look great

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-10 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to give it a go one day.

*gasp* This is so beautiful! It looks perfect!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-10 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, thank you!

That's gorgeous! I do hope you do it!

I used to do a bit of fake stained glass & that was fun & quick- no cutting involved. You use black acrylic paint as 'leading' and paint the glass in between with special translucent paint. Hmmm.... wonder if I have any left? Wonder if it's still usable after 20 years...

I've seen that, but I'd rather have the real thing in the entrance, and I like the effect of imperfections in the glass. But I might wait till we move somewhere I like better.

The fake stained glass is good for little amusing stuff, like putting around a small drinking glass & then putting a tealight candle in. It might also be good to make a scale model mock up before making a real stained glass work.

Oh yes, I've seen it on bottles and glasses. Very cool.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
That looks lovely! Well done...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I'm beginning to run out of ideas, except for the B7 Molesworth series. :-P

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
That would be a beautiful piece of glass work. I think you should go for it and make it for your door.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-11 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I might. I should look for night classes and work my way up to a window. It's huge though, about 6' high and 3' wide.
