This is me (Vila Restal) on the mitey Liberator, chiz. You did not kno I cuold draw, did you? In the next few weeks I will do the luvly ha ha visages of BLAKE, that grate revolushinary and captain of the Lib and rebel 1st 15, AVON, rich as Cressus but a SWOT nuntheless, my grate freind GAN, and the gurls JENNA (jolly hocky sticks!) and CALLY [blush blush blush].

Drawing and text in the style of Ronald Searle and Geoffrey Willans' Molesworth books.
For [livejournal.com profile] sallymn. One in a planned series; sorry if you don't know the books.

You know the Molesworth books? I'm going to have Jenna as a St Trinian's old girl.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Very very vaguely, but it's amusing nevertheless. And BWHAAAAAA as a St. Trinian's Jenna!

Did you every read Neil Faulkner's 'How to be Topp on the Liberator'? It was in the zine Star Four, and I keep hoping it'll turn up on the web as well...

The Molesworth books themselves, written by Geoffrey Willans and Ronald Searle in (I think) the 1950s, are absolutely evil - and hysterical...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
I have all four. And 'How to be Topp on the Liberator' was wonderful; I have that too. Travis's eyepatch! :-D

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
There's also a Molesworthian Harry Potter story (http://www.alice.dryden.co.uk/ho_for_hoggwarts.htm#voldemort) that is really rather good... not as good (moi? biased?) but fun.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I have that bookmarked. I've read it several times. I want to reread my Molesworths now for the umpteenth time...

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Me too - I may take it to bed tonight :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[wonders if she ought to buy an omnibus as her four separate books are getting a bit battered]

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. Just looked again. Those are St Trinian's girls hanging off the Hogwarts Express. :-D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I still had a St Trinian's book.

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh oh OHHHH!!! That's fabulous!!!

And for me? You shouldn't - no, on second thoughts you should have and thank you!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
[bounce] I'm glad you like it!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Like it, I love it :) Our Heroes do fit with Molesworth startlingly well... and that's a lovely picture.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
And I thought I'd lost my knack! I used to draw them a lot at high school, in the backs of my exercise books. A couple of teachers told me that they looked forward to marking my work so they could see them. :-P I enjoyed doing murderous Romans too. Do you remember Molesworth's parts of speech? Nervous little pronouns being hounded by gerunds? Bwahahaha!

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Marvellous. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :-D

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Just looked at my copy of the books (an omnibus edition) and Searle says in the intro that he went into illustrating Molesworth to escape St Trinian's as he felt he'd done everything he wanted with them.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the St Trinian's books since high school, but I'd love to get my hands on them again.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Wonderful. Priceless.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D You know Ronald Searle and Molesworth? I didn't think they'd translate well to the US.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I only know Molesworth from Neil's posts to the Lyst, but I grasp the basics. I do think I may have seen the artist before; the style is very familiar.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
He did the St Trinian's books, and lots of standalone cartoons.

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
*giggle* That's so cute! I particularly love that nostril-style. I am so looking forward to seeing the rest of the crew.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
When I've done them, I might put them up on a single page on my site. :-)

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*sporfle* Just read the text, heh.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D I don't think I've got Molesworth's misspellings quite right yet.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Much smirking. Looking forward to the rest.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-08-06 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I might do Blake tonight!
