Ficlet: Poppy Day

For last week's Siouxsie and the Banshees challenge on [livejournal.com profile] b7friday, 200 words.

Poppy Day
by Halvor Segura, Class 3

Today is Poppy Day. I put a credit in the box and buyed bought a poppy on the way to school and the lady pinned it to my tunic. It is really clever how they make them with rolled up red paper and little black stick things inside and one green leaf just like you see in a book. They are happy and bright and make people smile. My mummy puts one behind her ear at dinner time and makes daddy bite it off her.

While I was playing with mine in the street, a vetran vetarin old soldier came up to me and aksed if I new why its a poppy. I said no and he said they are red like blood with a hart of darkness then he lent over and put his face close to mine and laughed. I was scared but then I laughed too because he had a funny patch on one eye like a pirate.

He was wrong though. Poppies stand for Opium which is for the soldiers and other peeple who want to forget somthing bad.

Poppies are for forgetting.

Poppy Day is when we honour our Mutiods.

OH, oh that hurts....

Well done!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
:-) And it didn't even have Vila in it!

*laughs* That *is* the thing about sweeping generalizations - one tends to feel a need to prove them wrong. I havn't written a Stark/Zhaan drabble in a while, myself. :)

I'll have to write a Vila one soon; I have more than 50 to go to fill up my [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 table. :-P I do like writing aliens though.

Oh god, I've got 95 to go on those - though I havn't used up all my previously written ones.

Quite a few of mine are cross-posts from [livejournal.com profile] b7friday.

Mine are going to be made up of a lot of [livejournal.com profile] farscapefridays, myself.

Now, that's a sweet-and-sour slice of life, isn't it? Very good.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! How much B7 have you seen now?
kernezelda: (want some candy?)

I watched the whole series back in 1991, and a few runthroughs thereafter. I bought the DVDs for Series 1-3 last year, but haven't gotten 4th yet. Third season is my favorite.

Sorry, I thought you were one of the several people I know on LJ who have only recently come to B7 and are still getting to know it.

I think S2 is my favourite (still optimistic but more complex than S1), then S1 and S3. S4 is a very poor last.

S3 is rather aimless, but it's also Blakeless, and that makes up for a great deal. *g*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-29 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Actually when I was watching it a few years ago (when I got sucked in) I was rather looking forward to him being replaced in S3 because I thought he'd become a bit boring (ducks and covers) but a few eps in, I realised that he had given the series an aim and direction and I missed him.

Yes, it's clear that Avon's not built to be a leader, and as much as Tarrant has training, he just doesn't have the gravitas to pull the others into a team. They're effective when they can all agree on a plan of action, but S3 flounders as much as the crew do. But we also have more personal bonding occurring among the crew, and that's more of a draw for me than the rebellion ever was.

You think? I think they're all fragmented and isolated except in a few eps like 'Rumours of Death' and 'Terminal' (I wish it had ended with 'Terminal'). Cally becomes withdrawn and cold and disconnected, and that's before the massacre of her race which doesn't help, Avon is no longer friends (deny it though he would) with Vila, and Vila is completely on the outside with all of them (Dayna snipes and Tarrant sneers and Avon says he despises him) which is why he so readily believes that they'd let Tarrant throw him off. It's still an entertaining season though and infinitely better than S4. And it has 'City'! :-D

Both amusing and poignant. Wonderful piece.
