LJ releases

LJ has a new community, [livejournal.com profile] lj_releases, which reports on changes and bug fixes. I had a look through their three existing posts, and thought these might interest people:

Users can now display just the year, or just the month/day of their birthdate.
This means that you can add your year (as I did a few weeks ago so that LJ have a better idea of age distribution) and still show your birthday without it if you wish. Or you can show just the year.

Fixed the bug where the mass-action delete/screen form at the bottom of site-scheme comment pages disappeared
Yay! [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 and [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house already noticed this one, but others may not have. It's mostly useful for bulk deleting of OOC comments in RPGs, but still.

There's also some interesting news on the latest post at [livejournal.com profile] news. You can now embed videos from YouTube and PhotoBucket, and LJ is going to launch an IM service called LJ talk. I'm not sure I'll use either but you never know.

And lastly, here's a laser safety sign that amused me.

love the sign ;0)

Maybe Travis wrote it.

BWHAHAHA!:) I loved it.

I'm a bit flaily about the video posting thing, but at least the buggers don't autoplay. I can't stand websites that spring videos on me without warning.

I doubt I'll use it but I thought some people might. Yeah, and I hate websites with unexpected sound too.

Ah, good about the birthday. I wasn't too happy about the age thing...

I think it's good to put our birth years in there so that they don't think we're all teenagers, but not everyone wants to show it. Also, some people fear identity theft, so having partial birth date options (leaving the year out or just showing the year) is very good.

We have that sign hanging up at work. Although we don't actually work with lasers. :)

It's a great sign. [thinks of Travis cartoon for the art-making month]

Thanks for the pointer - I'd seen something about the new community, and then forgotten.

I've gone and done suitable things to my birthdate. That's much better, now.

I hope they get a better idea of the ages of people on LJ.

Thanks for the info. I find it very helpful when others point out the important stuff because frankly, reading through all the faqs, etc, makes my head hurt.

Love the laser gif :D

It's great, isn't it?

I don't read the FAQs (unless I'm looking something up), just their news posts. It's a useful way to keep up. They put announcements on the home page too; that's an easy place to check.
