Cybermat silliness

The Cybermat I ordered from [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house came at the weekend: yay! Thank you so much! I just got round to taking some pictures.

The Cybermat wants to play but the Daleks aren't interested. They said that there was something they urgently needed to exterminate just over there.

"No one wants to play with me."

Vila makes friends. The Cybermat hums with pleasure as he scratches that hard-to-get-at spot behind an antenna.

Vila and his pipe-cleaner crewmates were made by [livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v. I have lovely and talented friends. :-)

I also got a lovely postcard from [livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v this week showing various wonders of the waterways, some of which Greg and I enjoyed during our 2004 holiday. She has just toured the Avon Ring and gone through a lot of locks that Vila thinks are far too much like hard work. :-)

Great pictures!

Thanks! The camera that replaced the one that was stolen is excellent and loaded with features the old one didn't have. An ill wind and all that.

Eeeeeheheheeheeheeheeheeheeheehee!!

That's so CUTE! Man, I used to have a toy Dalek in with my action figures before my stepmum gave them away... sigh... it was a blue one, too...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I have nothing from before I went overseas at 22. My mother got rid of it all when she moved house, toys, books, the lot, so I know how you feel.

I think I've posted pics of all my action figures except the Babylon 5 guys, Buzz Lightyear, and Jean-Luc Picard. :-P I should do that sometime.

I need a 'never growing up' icon...

My mother got rid of it all when she moved house, toys, books, the lot, so I know how you feel.

Thankfully, the books I got to keep. There would have been HELL to pay for those getting junked. Some of them are tresures - older tham me mum, owned by my Auntie, back in "Mother Endland".

I need a 'never growing up' icon...

Yeah, so do I....

I've been painstakingly rebuilding (and expanding!) my collection eveytime I visit flea markets and garage sales, but a few things (most painfully my Dalek, my spaceshuttle Discovery, and my Niddler from "Pirates of Dark Water") are I think gone forever. As is the dollhouse I built myself. And I'll never have the money to re-build my Playmobile 1900 collection.

Kids, if you're reading this - DON'T LET THEM DO IT! HIDE YOUR TOYS! BOX THEM IN THE ATTIC AND TELL YOUR PARENTS YOU'RE SAVING THEM FOR YOUR OWN KIDS! (Then when you get a place of your own, take them out and play with them again, of course.)

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you eBay? There appears to be a Niddler (http://cgi.ebay.com/Pirates-of-Dark-Water-Niddler-Action-Figure-MOC_W0QQitemZ140003162446QQihZ004QQcategoryZ348QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) on sale right now.

*whimpers* I do not ebay, though I might get an account just for that item if I had the 10$ US to spare - which I don't, sadly.

That's the other thing, of course, is that righ now even the garage sales aren't an option.

She sent me a postcards showing canalside pubs. She knows what makes us tick.

We didn't do all the Avon Ring, just a bit of it. Basically we went up the Worcester & Birmingham canal from Worcester to King's Norton, then turned right into the Stratford Canal, down to Kingswood Junction, then left up the Grand Union to Birmingham, did a loop round Birmingham then back down the W&B to Worcester. We worked out on the final evening that the entire trip was 202 locks (67 repeated, 68 once) and ten tunnels (four repeated, two once). And [livejournal.com profile] waveney saw 61 birds, and I wrote 50 postcards plus two birthday cards.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's a lot of locks and cards! Did you have to walk any tunnels?

Is that your longboat in the icon?
ext_6322: (Ship)

[identity profile] kalypso-v.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, we steered through them (well, I steered through one, as I recall the other nine were done by [livejournal.com profile] waveney or [livejournal.com profile] exalted_mugwump) using the engine. The longest one was nearly two and a half kilometres, though that's still a fraction of Standedge!

That's our narrowboat, Garder.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
How long did it take to go through that? I hope it was well-lit.

Augh, narrowboat! I knew 'longboat' didn't look right. Vikings! :-P

[identity profile] kalypso-v.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
About 50 minutes, I think. There's no lighting in the tunnel; you rely on the boat's headlights (and then forget to switch them off on returning to daylight).

It was from a firm called "Vikings Afloat" (the boats all had Viking-type names), so same thing really.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Greg would just love that!

Cool! What does 'Garder' mean? Sentry or something like that?
ext_6322: (Ship)

[identity profile] kalypso-v.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know the origin, but we assumed it was a proper name - other boats had names like Gunnar and Fredrik.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Gardar was one of the Viking settlements in Greenland, now known as Igaliko, according to David Wilson's book "The Vikings and their origins."

awww, cute :0) great pics x

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
:-D Thanks!

I have several mini ones of those running around my outside windowsill

[identity profile] quarryquest.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
My house is old (over 100 years) and full of silverfish and other things you find in old houses.

The Mother of all Silverfish hasn't been seen in the loo for a while but the silverfish on my windowsill must have found love as there are several tiny offspring running about!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
I used to see silverfish when I was a kid (possibly at my grandparents' house which was so old the loo was in the stables) and Cybermats do look like them.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeeee:). I'm glad the Cybermat's found a friend!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Vila has totally tamed it to Avon's disgust. Avon says Vila has to clean up all the oil-slicks on the flight deck till it's ship-trained.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! The Cybermat looks very happy. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, even though it was X-rayed by Customs on the way in which was so traumatic, its little pseudopods curled up. :-P

[identity profile] matildabj.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! The cybermat is brilliant. Great pics!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it great? when you squeeze it, it wheezes. :-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee hee! I love the cybermat.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't he cute!

I have never thought of Cybermats as cuties before. Thanks to you and entropy_house for that :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-07-20 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I think they always looked cute, but I don't see Cybermen the same way. Elegantly Metropolis maybe.
