Shiny new[er] car

When I last had my 14-year-old car (an Integra ZXI I've had for about 10 years) serviced by Honda, they offered me a new Integra to test-drive. Then of course, they tried to sell me one. "I'm a Delta; I can't afford a new one!" I said, so they said that the guy who handles second-hand cars would ring me. He did, while I was on holiday, and today we went in to look at the car he had in.

It's a silver 2002 model, almost half the price of a new one, and yeah, I put a deposit on it today. I will have a new[er] LIBR8R! I'd have preferred bright red or blue, but as Greg said, "Well, silver's yer basic spaceship colour, innit?"

I'd better hope for a decent contract soon so I can pay it off. I did see a permanent job in the local paper that looks interesting however, so I'll apply for that. I haven't had much luck going for jobs lately, but if I can get past the over-qualified thing, it sounds fun and close to home.

Yay for new car.

And good luck with the job.

Thanks! I hope I have better luck than recently.

It's got to be better than downgrading to a Scorpio, hasn't it! Good luck with the application.

LOL, thanks!

I feel almost disloyal getting rid of the car as it really has been a good one, but it is getting old.

Yay for new car, and good luck with the job application!

Thanks! My luck has to change sometime. :-)

New car, yay!

Let me add my good wishes to the job application. You'd think being over-qualified wouldn't be so off-putting, it's certainly better than the opposite!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it seems to have put me out of the running more than once. One interviewer said I was 'scarily high-powered', and yeah, I didn't get the job even though I explained that I want a lifestyle change.

Yes, new car! I've never had one that new!

Yay new car! You do get to keep the plate, yes?

I wonder if you could put some sort of green blobby thing on the back.

And fingers crossed for the job prospects. I'm always thinking about the over-qualified thing, too; if I can think of some pithy ways to address that in application or interview, I'll share.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, the plates are mine and are transferred. I just have to re-register the old one under new plates before selling it.

LOL, I though of that too. :-) A green air-bag to protect the 'bumper'; real bumpers are no more these days; they're painted the same as the car and just as vulnerable. [stabs stupid auto designers]

It's hard to deal with. I do say that I want a lifestyle change and no more being on call 24-7, but I can't say that I want less stress (my real reason for resigning from my last permanent job) because that would put people off. This country seems to think your job is your life.

Silver's a great color for a car! My Neon's silver. :)

And let me echo everybody else on the "good luck!"

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just so common here. Most cars are white, silver, or very dark colours like my last one because that's what the Japanese favour, but I like to be visible and be able to fid my car in a carpark. But it is very spaceship coloured, much more than my dark, dark blue one. And it will be a lot cooler in summer.

It has a sun roof / airlock! :-D

Thanks for the good wishes. I really hate trying to sell myself. :-P

I think silver is a very cool colour for a car. Spaceship-coloured!

Good luck on the job front. I cannot give advice, I am no good at looking for work.

It is!

I don't think I am either. I shall have to use my acting and perform the role of a successful and relaxed extrovert; I know all the body-language though I usually don't bother with it. Optimists also do well in life, so I shall just believe that they'll want me. :-)

Well, I hope so, too. I mean, if it isn't the repayments, it's keeping new car's horse(power)s fed and watered too :)

Best of luck.

I saw them today. Not sure how well it went, or whether I want the job, but we'll see.

Shiny!

Good luck with the job application!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! I'll be nervous driving it for the first few weeks. :-P

Thanks!

Looks like Greg has the right idea about car colours ;-). Good luck with the job application...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I'm not certain the job's my thing (I saw them today) but I'll think about it if they offer it to me. Not that they probably will. They asked me how old I was and I objected on the grounds that it's against the law which I suspect didn't go down too well. The guy countered with them not wanting young people as they "play on the internet and think of food all the time". Ahem.

*raises eyebrow*

I always found it astounding how many employers in NZ, werent' familiar with the employment laws.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-11 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There's an equal opportunities office right next to them on the same floor too. However being stroppy and pointing out the law usually means I'm not considered. [shrug] I suppose I'll stick to contracting. No interviews; if you can do the work, you're in there.
