Small (and wet) world

We went over to Russell again on the ferry today. On the way, we met a lovely retired Welsh couple, and ran into them again in a crowded cafe on the waterfront, so we shared a table. They said they came from near Cardiff, so we told them about our visit to Wales in 2004 when we stayed with [livejournal.com profile] linda_joyce -- and it turned out that they not only know Chapel of Ease, they live in Caerleon; they only said 'near Cardiff' because they didn't think anyone would know it. Anyway, Helen and Ray are frequent visitors to the Newport libraries and have a nephew called Alex who works there. Do you know him, Linda?

We've had a week of wonderful weather, but now it's raining. :-( Tomorrow we'll go to the weekly Farmers' Market in Keri Keri (good local food), then I plan to paint some ceramics at a cafe there as gifts for family. They're always saying I should do more art, so I will. Serve 'em right.

[finishes glass of Vilagrad dessert wine] And now I think I'll read in bed to the sound of rain on the roof.

That last para sounds idyllic :)

(hey, where'd the userpic menu go?)

D'oh, that was me. Never been logged out like that before.

I got logged out earlier, too. My login cookie had disappeared, they said.

Who ate all the cookies?!

I'm still logged in!

And it was nice last night but not so much now I want to go out. I have an umbrella but thought I could manage without a raincoat.

Isn't it strange? You go round to the other side of the world, and you meet someone like that!

I hope the rain doesn't last too long, and enjoy the ceramics-painting! Have you got designs worked out already?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
A Don Binney-style landscape for my little niece who likes his work, is artistic herself, and has a birthday early April; a lighthouse for Greg who loves them; and maybe some flowers for my sister. I'll see how it goes and how much / many colours they let you do.

It's pissing down here so there's not much else to do. I could stay in and read the latest Marcus Didius Falco, but the Farmers' Market sounds interesting.

Actually, none. THe frelling car's broken down and I'm trapped here because I'm not going out in that rain.

Oh no! It sounded like you had some lovely plans. How annoying! I hope this is going to still leave you enough time to get all of them done for when you need them.

Good luck with getting the car fixed...

Some things I can do here on foot once the storm's passed, but quite a few needed a car. :-( I just hope they can fix it in a day.

Yes I know Alex, young enough to be my son if not grandson. He's a lovely boy. I probably know Helen and Ray at least by sight as I've worked Caerleon Library often enough, not to mention Ringland, Maindee and Central which would be their other most likely branches. Should you run into them again, give them a hi from me.

They said they'd know you by sight, but now that you don't work there, you probably won't run into each other. They're lovely people and we swapped e-mail addresses. :-) They don't live far from the amphitheatre. I got a pic of them and will put it up with the others when I get back.
