Right-wing Punquin Elegant

For those of you using Punquin Elegant who have suddenly found your sidebar on the right instead of the left and don't like it, don't worry. LJ appear to have changed the default sidebar position to the right.

Here's how to fix it.

I went into manage customizations, then clicked on the 'edit customizations' button down near the bottom. The second option in the 'Presentation' tab (which comes up automatically) is the one. Click on 'override default' then change it to 'left' and save.

I was a bit annoyed with the fiddling this morning, as not only had the bar shifted but my width was all messed up. Still, while sorting that out I managed to add tags to my sidebar, so it wasn't all bad. Turns out that adding stuff to S2 layouts isn't as evil as I'd feared.

That sounds impressive. I rarely tag stuff because of the 100 limit, and fiction's what I'd use it for, but I should investigate what else I can do when I get home. I haven't done much more than change all the colours and a few things like how many posts get shown on a page. :-P

What was the width problem. Is it something I should fix?

I'm not sure. Maybe it's just me, but I found that my journal looked narrower than before, which is a pain as I browse with my mail bar open and therefore don't like cramped layouts. Turns out that if you create a theme for a given layout and then put a bit of code in you can override style stuff for your journal. Shiny! Here's a link showing how to do so: http://community.livejournal.com/s2howto/3739.html I changed table#main to 100% so that my LJ would fill the screen, and also put #commenttext { width: 97%;} to get rid of that annoying 'comment box spills off the side of the screen' thing that was happening to me.

If yours looks fine to you you probably don't need to bother. I need all the screen width I can get though :D

Thanks, I may do that. :-) I have more problems with my friends page sometimes being too wide to show in one screen width, due to people posting large graphics without cuts, and Opera not handling one person's LJ in particular even when it's only text, I have no idea why and the 'fit to width' option doesn't do it. Firefox copes with it.

Yeah, I have the odd glitch myself. I don't think Opera will ever be 'perfect' on LJ though, as it renders things fairly strictly and LJ code is sometimes wonky. Still, a few bugfixes on Opera and LJ's part would be welcome.

It's a nuisance, isn't it?! They could at least have made the default be the same as the old appearance.

After all, that's what comes up in the previews.

Thank you!

I'm glad it was something that was easy to fix. :-)
