Pasifika Festival

Today we went to the annual Pasifika Festival in Western Springs, which celebrates the cultures of the different Pacific islands. It was hot, crowded, and fun. We stuffed ourselves with interesting food from places like Samoa, Tahiti, Niue, Kiribati, Tokelau, Fiji, Tonga, and Niu Sila, listened to singers, watched dancers, and had a great time.

Yes, I wondered where on earth Niu Sila was too, then when I said it out loud, realised it was here: New Zealand, duh. That area had Maori food and crafts of course.

Three pictures under the cut, and five more in an LJ gallery, including one of me drinking from a coconut which I decided not to spam you with after last week. :-P

Oh go on, have a look. There are two men in grass skirts.

Why are other peoples festivals so much more interesting than home grown ones? Lovely hots, gorgeous weather.

Well, your festivals are exotic to us! It was very cool though; I didn't know that much about some of the islands. I think I'll go next year too.

Looks like you had a good time. :-) I ended up going to an Irish festival on in town (it was nice but they could have had a few more stalls).

I didn't know there was an Irish festival on. There was a lot on yesterday; I saw it was Remuera market day as we drove though.
